Raoul Felder's Advice To Kate Middleton: 'Grab As Much As You Can Get'

Raoul Felder Royal Wedding

On Monday's episode of The Truth About Money with Ric Edelman, famed divorce attorney Raoul Felder weighed in on Prince William and Kate Middleton's upcoming nuptials.

The royal couple will tie the knot on April 29th at Westminster Abbey, where Queen Elizabeth II married. William proposed to Middleton in October 2010 with his late mother's engagement ring, an oval blue sapphire surrounded by diamonds.

The question remains--will they sign a prenuptial agreement?

"With Prince William, I would have a very tough prenuptial agreement to avoid the thing he fears most, and his family fears most, which is publicity, so it's not a public bleed," Felder told Edelman. "He should spell it out with exquisite detail, what she gets, where she goes..."

His advice to Middleton was far simpler: "Grab as much as you can get like Evita, who wanted a little bit of excess."

Check local television listings for airtime.

Kate should get as much as she can but knowing her she wants to be married to him badly enough now that the royal family have the upper hand and have muzzled her for life. If she does marry him she's trapped to whatever the Royal Family wants either way.

In the States, ex spouses have no claim on trust funds and inheritances. I'd be surprised if much of the money is actually Prince William's. And this guy reinforces the stereotypes of lawyers being sharks.

Have they even gotten married yet? Too early to divvy up the spoils.

Mr Felder! What kind of a lawyer are you? Don't you know that prenuptual agreements are not valid in England?
06:19 PM on 03/15/2011
Well that's not entirely true, I read a case (o.k. it was the UK Dailymail), that stated a British court had recognized the prenuptial on behalf of a daughter from a wealthy British family. The husband of course wanted more money but he didn't get it, they upheld the prenup. Of course there were appeals and what not, but it's changing in Britian.

I agree with Raoul, even though Kate's family is well off, she should get all she can but I don't think there really is a prenup as the Windsors feel they have the advantage being royality and can want they want prenup or not, so it's Kate who really needs one, but the dummy of course won't demand it.

It is entirely true. If a couple are married in Britain the prenup is not legally binding. I know of the case you were talking about. However, the lady you are talking about was a German national and they had married in a foreign jurisdiction. At the moment the prenup in very rare circumstances could be used to look at what your intentions were before marriage and in some circumstances they could have a decisive weight in divorce settlements. These does not mean they are valid. They are thinking of making them valid. And that case you were talking about was a test case.

whenever Raoul Felder's name is mentioned, it should be qualified by stating he represented Mayor Rudolph Guiliani when he divorced his then wife Donna Hannover, and Felder proceeded to call Mrs. Guiliani a "Pig" on Mother's Day of all days......

He refered to her as screaming like a "Stuck Pig"........ on Mother's day, which is a Sunday last time I checked, so it wasn't as if they were in court

my thoughts were this is why divorce lawyers have such great reputations in our society........

the joke about the lawyers being chained to the bottom of the ocean made sense after his comments........

That's a good point. Her parents have made a few million and who knows how much more they'll make off of their daughter's reflected glory.

Also, the palace likes to play up Kate's coal miner ancestors, but not all of her ancestors were working class. Her family has quite a bit of inherited money in a trust fund.

HAHAHAHA! Richer than the Royal Family ... I think not. Not by a long shot. Wiliam stands to inherit a VAST fortune someday.

Agreed. Kate tear this page from Diana's rule book. Hire a good lawyer who isn't a starry eyed monarchist and play some hard ball with the royals. The Queen doesn't like to give away money, and you don't want to end up like Sarah Ferguson if your marriage to William goes south.

Ha!

Marriage has become a big, fat joke nowadays. They haven't tied the knot yet but they are already talking about divorce.

With all of these sideshows, I don't see them lasting very long as husband an wife.

Near as I can figure, the only reason to get married is to protect yourself when you break up. If you're planning to break up, don't get married! Of course, if your BF is second in line for the British throne, I guess you can't just shack up. . . though his father and step mom did.

I doubt whether the couple could give a tinker's cuss about anything Mr Felder had to say, even if they had heard of him, which they haven't.

Kate would be wise to take his advice, unless she wants to end up like Sarah Ferguson, with only a stipend from William's military pension, should her marriage end in divorce.

Hmmmmm.....the lawyers were being practical. Nothing lasts that long, perhaps. But, here's one who is wishing for a fairytale relationship. I hope they do!

He is a just a greedy lawyer, what else can he say.
She will never go without no matter what.
A person only needs so much money, the rest is for showing off.
In the modern age there is no way he willl lock her up on a tower to die.
