Amazing Young Chinese Girl Plays Piano With No Fingers On One Hand (VIDEO)

First Posted: 03/15/11 03:32 PM ET Updated: 05/25/11 07:40 PM ET

To play the piano well is a challenge in and of itself. Pianists study diligently for years and consider themselves students even well into illustrious careers. But to play the piano lyrically and beautifully with a physical impairment shows even more dedication and willpower.

This young Chinese girl performs Richard Clayderman's "Souvenirs d'enfance," on what looks to be a talent-search style TV show, with no fingers on her right hand. If this doesn't inspire you to quit sweating the small stuff, we're not sure what will.

She is simply amazing. After I did a bit of online search about her (in Chinese and English), I find her story truly inspiring. She was born without fingers on her right hand, one of three daughters in the family, in the countryside in central China. People there DON'T have a piano in their house! Most likely the whole village does not have one! Some parents place handicapped children for adoption, especially girls, especially handicapped girls, especially when she is one of three girls in the family, especially in the countryside when traditionally boys have been considered the torchbearers of family names. To the day of her performance, she only studied 3 years of piano. Her journey is quite amazing, it gives me hope and smile. The astonishing triumph of the human spirit, now when we most
need to see it reflected in this girl's talent.

That was great.

I wish her teacher could get her lay off the loud pedal until she learns how to use it, though.
