Carole & Michael Middleton To Pay Six-Figure Amount For Royal Wedding

Carole Middleton

First Posted: 03/15/11 11:18 AM ET Updated: 05/25/11 07:40 PM ET

Although the royal family usually covers the entire cost when someone gets hitched, the Middletons will be supplying a six-figure amount for Prince William & Kate's impending wedding, Vanity Fair reports.

VF adds:

"At first Carole rather enjoyed the attention," a family friend tells Nicholl of Kate Middleton's mother. "She seemed to find the whole thing quite dizzying, but the constant nit-picking in the press did get to her." But, says neighbor and friend Lynda Tillotson, "in the village we are very protective. There's a lot of camaraderie towards the Middletons. I think they have coped amazingly well, given the attention."

And apparently Kate's father Michael has kept the princess-to-be's feet on the ground -- "He doesn't get too swept up in the grandeur of her new life, and Kate loves him for that."

Um, why do they need to chip in? There are tens of millions of dollars of profits coming on the sale of official wedding memorbilia? This is going to be the most profitable wedding in recorded history. Chip in for what?

It is nice that Michael doesn't get caught up in the grandeur .... at the end of the day, the love and companionship between any married couple is "for richer or poorer"

I'm so old I remember when it was "crass" to talk about money. Sometimes I wish it still was. The bundles people pay for one day of a "fairy tale" is really lopsided to me.

I still find it crass that people need to advertise. I really don't need to know some things. I say just spend what is reasonable and enjoy the day.

Agreed. It does not enrich ones day to read about it. I've already stopped reading about some personal things like the Kardashians, etc.. I may have to add the royal wedding to my list...fan ontario girl

In my opinion there is a huge difference between the Kardashians and the Kate and William. The Kardashians go looking for publicity at any cost. Kate and William can't avoid it. I hope they leave them alone after the wedding. Funny before the wedding was announced they kept a low profile. Hope that continues. Enjoy your day Honora. I hope its a good one. :))

Dad seems a really decent fellow. But mom, not so much. Not basing my opinion on HP's syrupy sweet coverage of the Middletons.

What are you basing it on?

Kate's parents look like good people. They are wealthy in thier own right and have worked very hard for their success. I am sure they will see that Kate will get a perfect wedding
good luck to them all.

When the Middletons are invoiced for their share of the festivities, will it be on QEII's or Charles'
stationery?

I've already had my fill of the Kate and Will stories.

But I know they'll be staring back at me from the magazine racks at grocery stores for years and years to come, so I better get used to it.

But I won't be buying.

As with all MOBs, I am sure she was ecstatic, happy, excited, perhaps a tad bit more than most, though all MOBs view their engaged daughters as "princesses". They know their future son-in-law after all of these years. This young couple is focusing on Family as much as possible during this life experience. The very public and lavish wedding is a public duty. Form, ritual, pomp and circumstance.

If I were Kate and my guy was the crown prince, I think I'd insist on eloping...no fuss no muss.

Unfortunately, she's not in a position to insist on much when it comes to royal traditions.

Wow, her mum's beautiful. That said, mum won't be able to walk to the store without everybody checking out how she looks, if she's chewing gum, who she talks to, etc. I'd find that really annoying.

I've got an idea. Wall Street can pay for the royal wedding with that bailout money that we gave them.

They look like nice folks. Probably a bit overwhelmed at it all.

Maybe it's just me, but what is the intent of the story? One one hand, her family will be portrayed in a bad light if the answer comes back "less that what people think is appropriate". On the other hand, the family will be portrayed in a bad light if the answer comes back "in the six figures", implying they're overdoing it and trying to compete with the royal family.

It's just unnecessary speculation trying to invent a non-troversy.

That's about what most "big" weddings cost in US and what most brides' families spend, as they are the ones responsible for most of the expenses, usually.

I think that's my point. "Usually" doesn't even begin to apply in this situation.

The fam said they would be overjoyed to foot the bill cause the Brit people are very unhappy with the royal family budget they are paying for out of their nearly dry pockets. Of course, Kate learned well from mom and made the ultimate catch so it's a win-win for the Middletons.
