Fox News' Japan Map Mistakenly Identifies Nightclub As Nuclear Plant (PHOTO)

On Monday afternoon, Fox News put up a map of the location of Japan's nuclear plants, due to the increased fears of nuclear meltdown in the country. As Media Matters, which snagged a screengrab of the map, noted, one of the supposed plants--called "Shibuyaeggman"-- didn't seem to show up on any official map or list of the country's nuclear facilities.

Media Matters did some snooping and discovered that, while there does not appear to be any nuclear plant with that name, there is a nightclub called Eggman in the Tokyo district of Shibuya. The seemingly erroneous plant on the Fox News map had also been placed in Tokyo.

Why is Sendai shown down at the southern tip of Japan? Sendai is a northern city. It would be like the US putting a power plant in Miami and calling it "New York". Possible I suppose but unlikely.

That logic is really, really bad. The power plant is near Satsumasendai in Kagoshima, so naming it "Sendai" makes some sense. Sendai is a local name, so naming it that makes particular sense. It would be more like naming something "Arlington Power Plant" and then seeing people wanting to feel smart by saying, "OMG! Arlington is not in TEXAS!" (of which there are about 30 in the US alone).

People should just admit they weren't thinking and wanted to look and feel smart, but made fools of themselves. Trying to justify why one looks like a fool just reinforces how foolish you look in the first place!

Since their viewers don't know and don't care about facts, there is no need to employ fact checkers - Fox can put together a broadcast on the cheap cheap cheap while they laugh all the way to the bank at the gullibility of their fans.

Plus, they put Sendai down at the southern tip of the country and Sendai is a northern city. If you can't get accurate graphics up why bother to do them at all? NO chart is better than one with mistakes.

So you think Media Matters would go to the trouble of grabbing a screen shot of the map, doing 'some snooping' and write up their little story only about the 'eggman' mistake and miss the Sendai (the MOST TALKED ABOUT CITY) mistake?

Seriously man...read a bit. The map legend says the map displays the names of 'Japan's Nuclear Power Plants' -- not cities. Sendai is also the name of a power plant located exactly where the map depicts. Don't ya just LOVE it?

Fox placed Egypt on the Arabian Peninsula. One error. After this additional one, I wouldn't trust a darned map they post. Maybe there's a mole in place who's trying to take the station down? One can only hope.
