Sharron Angle Faces Fire From Democrats After Announcing House Campaign

Tea Party favorite Sharron Angle came under fire from Democrats on Wednesday just hours after announcing plans to run for Nevada's second district House seat in the next election cycle.

The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee issued a release seeking to draw attention to some of the controversial views that landed Angle in the headlines in her failed campaign to defeat Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid last year.

"Sharron Angle's extremist views are so far out of touch with middle class Nevada families that they're rightly labeled radical and right-wing," said Jesse Ferguson at the DCCC. "Whether it's her refusal to do anything to create jobs if she got to Congress or her belief that Medicare and Social Security should be phased out, Sharron Angle's views are too extreme for Nevada families. The Republican primary for Congress in this district is now clearly a battle of extremists and a race for the radical, right-wing of the Republican party."

During the 2010 midterm election season, Angle's views were not solely subjected to Democratic scrutiny. Republicans in the Silver State expressed concern over the nature of her positions over the course of her campaign. The Huffington Post reported on an example of such instance last year:

After first withholding her support, former Nevada Congresswoman Barbara Vucanovich, a well-respected figure in the party, announced this week that she would back Angle. But Vucanovich's endorsement ended up sounding more like a scolding.

"I said, 'Sharron, you're scaring the bejesus out of everybody,'" Vucanovich told the Las Vegas Review-Journal, describing "a long, candid conversation" with Angle. "I told her you better make damn sure people really understand what you're trying to do."

Nevertheless, Angle appears to be in it to win it in the race for the congressional seat currently held by Rep. Dean Heller (R-Nev.), who recently announced plans to pursue a campaign for Senate in 2012.

Angle formally announced her intention to run for congress in a web video released on Wednesday. The Tea Party darling e-mailed the clip to her supporters along with a note, which is pasted in full below.

WATCH:

Dear Friend:

Harry Reid still rules the US Senate, holding up government spending cuts and other legislation passed by the Republican majority in the House. Nancy Pelosi still organizes the Democrats, working her hardest to keep funding Planned Parenthood and NPR.

Friend, the job still needs doing.

We can't simply celebrate our victories from 2010. Once again, we face a determined opponent who won't give ground. The Obama administration still plans on running a TRILLION dollar deficit. The Democrats in Congress still plan on implementing their gigantic bureaucratic takeover of our health care system.

Friend, the job still needs doing.

That's why I am announcing today that I will be running for the US House in Nevada's 2nd Congressional district. The job still needs doing, and I won't stand by and wait for someone else to do it.

In 2012, we will have an opportunity to put an end to these dangerous policies. We can preserve our Republican majority in the House and win a new majority in the Senate. We can defeat a President intent on spreading the influence of government to every part of our lives. Now is our opportunity.

I won't back down when the stakes are so high and when the job needs doing.

As we get things started again for 2012, I'll need your help. I'll need you to tell your friends, go door to door, make phone calls and send emails.

But for now I need just one thing. Turn the energy that changed the direction of our country in 2010 to another election.

With your help we can once again change the country's direction like we started in 2010. Thank you for your support!

Sincerely,

SHARRON ANGLE
