flavorwire.com:

There are many ways we can celebrate St. Patrick’s Day: go on a bender, kiss everyone in sight, projectile vomit into some shrubbery, be the bastard who pinches someone for not wearing an appropriate amount of green, or all of the above. In addition to the general acts of vandalism and stupidity that will take place in a matter of hours, we suggest you pick up a copy of The Granta Book of the Irish Short Story, edited by Anne Enright. We’ve come up with a list of ten contemporary Irish authors you need to know, because they’re masters of their craft, and because you’re going to need a big book to hide under when you commute to work tomorrow.

No patrick mc cabe or roddy doyle? Still they saved the great william trevor for last,i've read everything of his in print and believe him the most deserving writer in english of a nobel!

I'm more of a macro-bio girl, to be honest.

Yes, yes, and yes to all of them. I can't believe Roddy Doyle was left off this list. "Paddy Clarke, Ha Ha Ha" may be one of the best books from a child's perspective ever written in any language.

I'd like to fan you again for having great taste in literature, but I'll have to settle for the "fave."

This is just a pet peeve about list makers and their announcers, BUT here goes. How bout if you tell me the subject is "10 Contemporary Irish Authors You Might Like to Know" instead of shouting that "need" to know them

I'm surprised not to see John Banville on this list. His The Sea won a Booker Prize, The Shroud is masterpiece. About 1/3 of the list I've not heard of which is good as I might discover new authors.

Me too! And I love his mysteries written under the name of Benjamin Black. Have you read those?
There are three so far, and you should read them in order because they are a series: Christine Falls, The Silver Swan and Elegy for April.

Yes, I've read all three mysteries under Benjamin Black and enjoyed each and every one. I'm almost finished with The Infinities with the most beautiful prose and an amazing cast of characters. It's really a gem.

I confess Shroud left me a bit depressed though the Irish writers can get into very dark territory but can they ever write!

I like Michael Scott, author of The Secrets of the Immortal Nicholas Flamel series
