The videos from the recent tsunami and its aftermath in Japan have brought vivid images from the disaster into our homes and our workplaces, igniting grief, anxiety, and astonishment.

But some of the news from the disaster-stricken area has revealed stories of loyalty and heroism -- and not only from humans.

This video from The Today Show tells the story of a dog who persistently stood guard over another dog injured on a debris-strewn beach.

Dara Brown reports that rescuers were eventually able to calm down the worried guard dog enough to bring his injured friend to a veterinary clinic. The guard dog himself was reportedly taken to a shelter.

Go to the site " Dedicated to the Mystery Surrounding the 2 tsunami dogs" to learn the truth about them. Find out why the man that said he had rescued them really did not rescue them. He never had the dogs.

That's why people can learn alot from intelligent animals. This is what being a friend is all about.

The Green section here is an annoying mix of cute animal stories and serious stories. It weakens the impact of issues like climate change to be thrown in the same category. Just make an animal/pet section.

Yep, animals KNOW.

You ever hear the story of the animal rescue shelter? They had some elephants in a large building which also had a processing section separated from the main building by a huge gate. One day, some new elephants were being processed. Suddenly, there was a furor of elephant screaming and yelling!

Two elephants (females both) were at the gate making a heck of a noise, with trunks pushed through the gate kissing each other. Apparently, they were sisters or cousins that were separated years before. And when the one emerged in the processing area, her relative let out a scream of joy, and then they began to bellow and cry together.

Now, you all may think this a confection, but I have it on good authority.

Besides, it's a good story with a moral. Treat animals as you would yourself wish to be treated, especially elephants.

I'm relieved to see this and learn what happened to these two dogs. We saw the clip itself as a background vid to other news stories and no explanation. I've worried about them ever since. I hope they both recover and are either reunited with their families or find new, loving homes. The whole situation in Japan breaks the heart, but thinking about the fate of the animals, who are so unequipped to help themselves, makes us sad beyond words.

I think I can say without qualification that the best friend I have is Chewy a black lab. A society should be judged by the way they treat their animals.

Wonderful story. As a dog lover, I find that dogs have a loyalty that cannot be matched. Isolating that gene and implanting it in humans, well that's another topic.

Fortunately, most of Vic's dogs have been rehabilitated. Best Friends in Utah got them, and have worked wonders, even with the so called 'bait' dogs. Of course that doesn't say anything for Vic, but the important players, the animals, are being well taken care of.
