After a four year investigation, an ex-butler is being held without bail on charges that he carried out an extravagant kidnapping of Manhattan socialite, Anne Bass.

From News Times:

Federal investigators and State Police said Bass and her artist boyfriend, Julian Lethbridge, were threatened with guns and knives, bound, beaten, blindfolded and injected with a blue fluid they were told contained a deadly virus. The masked assailants then demanded $8.5 million for the antidote during the 12-hour ordeal.

The couple did not give into the perpetrators demands and were left "beaten and bruised" in Bass' Kent, CT mansion.

The kidnapping was allegedly carried out by Romanian national Emanuel Nicolescu and two co-conspirators who are still being sought by police.

Nicolescu came to the U.S. from Romania in 1993 and worked as Bass' butler until a few months before the kidnapping on April 15, 2007.

Bass is the ex-wife of billionaire businessman Sid Bass.
