First Posted: 03/20/11 01:31 PM ET Updated: 05/25/11 07:40 PM ET

Boeing's newest aircraft, the 747-8 Intercontinental, launched its first flight Sunday.

As Huffington Post Travel previously reported, Boeing has sold 33 of the new planes already; the planes will be outfitted with more passenger space and more room for carry-on luggage.

Go to AOL Travel for the recorded video of the first flight takeoff. The plane...it is big.

"Boeing says that it is a private buyer or government that will be taking ownership after the 600-hour flight test program "

Wow. What gov't other than the Chinese can afford that? Or for that matter, what private buyer can afford that?! Wow.

Good job Boeing. Let's kick some Scarebus a** and put more Americans to work instead of Euros. Pleasssssse no comments about how some Scarebus parts are made in the USA. The bottom line is that Boeing cashes those checks and most of the money stays here and pays American salaries and benefits.
With the air force 767 tanker contract, the 787 orders and this new monster, Everett line work should be for years. Don't worry about that a350..... as of now it is still a sketch on a cocktail napkin and EADS expects to make delivery in 2014. Yeah right.

Hurrah for Boeing! This airplane will give the A380 a run for its money. Port authorities will not have to spend $150 million to upgrade their runways to accept this jet like they do for the A380. Advantage, Boeing.

The only problem is that the Boeing's are designed and made in the US, advantage Europe!

US is the most sophisticated country in the world when it comes to aircraft manufacturing and design.

Boeing builds a soft wing, "The Boeing Wing", which provides a much more comfortable ride than the stiff winged Airbus. I like to get to my destination with all of my fillings still in my head and the vertical stabilizer still attached to the airframe. Advantage, Boeing.

Super stressed runways in the near future. Maybe allen west can start working on this too. He loves taking credit for other people's work.

I have loved aircraft since I was very young. And one of the things that caught my imagination is that something so large can rise into the air without plummeting back to the earth. It is truly an amazing thing. Great job Boeing team!

I still get a rush seeing the 747 taking off and that landing is like a graceful bird! I-95 near Newark, NJ is a great place to see them.

It's the ones that aren't delayed that you don't want to fly on.
09:19 PM on 03/20/2011
What are you writing about?
First flight of the 747-8, Passenger was scheduled for the end of March, 2011.
Boeing obviously met that benchmark.
So easy to be "just sayin".
Try saying something accurate.

http://www.ocregister.com/news/dreamliner-111296-ocprint-boeing-order.html
Boeing wins Dreamliner, 747-8 orders...

"Air China is one of the world's largest airlines and has been flying earlier models of the 747 since the 1980s.

Previously, Germany's Lufthansa had ordered 20 of the new passenger planes. Korean Air ordered five passenger models and another five freighter models.

Although Boeing has a definitive agreement with Air China, it will not immediately book the order. It will await formal approval from the Chinese government, which is expected soon."

Air China -- figures since their economy is doing great, thanks to the US. Approval from the Chinese Govt? Oh you mean the communist Chinese govt who are raking in the dough from the interest off our debt.

That's why it was liveried in "good fortune" red instead of Boeing blue.
