Question: What is BookEnds, and how long has it been in business?

Answer: BookEnds is a used, new and rare bookstore that also sells bookends, book marks, statues and busts. We opened May 1, 2009.

Q: You opened in the midst of the recession; how has business faired in the past two years?

A: We took a chance opening when we did, but we felt that because of the recession, we would be OK since people were cutting back and would be more open to pay used prices on books rather than new from the big-box stores.

Independent book stores are the best, and so are independent all stores. If people supported their local proprietors small business could stay in business! I have been fortunate to live in towns that were populated by independent spirits and those of a rebellious nature. Thankfully, I could support their bookstores, health-food stores, clothing stores, etc...Now I live in a place that is mostly big box stores, but if I search I can find the independents. I hope the US returns to locally owned business as the majority business model.

Good for BookEnds! Independent bookstores are the best. I coordinate a mystery readers' group that is now on its 17th year and a local inde bookstore has been our home. Even though I'm unemployed, I try to buy one book each month from my local inde. If everyone did the same, we would not have to worry about losing our wonderful independent bookstores.
