The Movie I liked more of Elizabeth Taylor is Cleopatra; only one Cleopatra for a movie : she. No other movie star can make it as she did.

Although I loved "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof," my favorite Elizabeth Taylor movie is "Cleopatra." I should also mention that my friend and writing partner, the late Altovise Davis was married to Sammy Davis, Jr. and she said that, although Elizabeth met Richard Burton during the filming of the movie, it was her husband who actually helped bring them together. Thank you Ms. Taylor for your Martha in ...Virginia Woolf!

Had to be the performance of the 1/2 century and makes her other roles seem like a warm up stroll compared to raw intensity, passion, and histrionics she displayed as Martha.

Maybe only Betty "What a Dump" Davis could have been on par. Now, what was the name of that movie? :-)

Blown away by "... Virginia Woolf" last nite on TCM. When watched before, it became so cringeworthy, I couldn't make thru the whole showing. Or I'd catch it on from the middle before channel surfing away from that drunken emotional horror show.

BUT LAST NITE, I forced myself to hyperfocus on it and Ms. Taylor's performance from beginning to end. No distractions, no snacking, just Martha, George and the other couple.

I WAS BLOWN AWAY, and needed a klonopin when it was over. ;-)

Illusion vs. reality, for sure. (thank's TCM employee guest programmer!).

GIANT! I just don't understand how that got left off! She was superb! The Taming of the Shrew ! Little Women!

Aug of 1973 I was knocked over by a throng of reporters following her and her kids at Disneyland. She didn't know but I was on the ground looking up from the ground through the reporters legs.

I was going to comment that GIANT wasn't on the list and that it was my favorite Elizabeth Taylor movie. Then, to my surprise, I discovered a number of you have already commented on that. Giant was a movie WAAAAAY ahead of its time. A gutsy movie that unabashedly took on the unspoken issues of the day (the 1950's):
class prejudice and bias (the rich vs the poor--Rock Hudson, the big Texan rancher vs James Dean, the poor cattleman);
the interracial prejudice between the white Texans and Mexicans (Sal Mineo was a Mexican boy on Hudson's ranch, who despite the prejudices toward him, went off to fight in the war for the U.S., and came home a dead hero; and the wealthy rancher's son who had the temerity to marry a Mexican woman);
treating women as separate and second-class (Elizabeth Taylor is told she has to go and visit with the women and not get involved in men's talk, like politics);
issues of use of land and environment (covering the land with oil derricks);
and even, at the end of the movie, Elizabeth Taylor makes the comment, despite her husband having gone the oilman/wealthy route, that it didn't seem right that oilmen got the advantage of such large tax breaks (and they still do).
Well....those were the unspoken issues then...anything ring familiar? As I said, GIANT was a giant, gutsy movie. (and, yes, James Dean's last)

I'm fond of two movies in which Ms. Taylor appeared in a supporting role. The first was "Life with Father"; she played a young houseguest who became the love interest of the eldest son in the family. The second movie was "Ivanhoe" and she played Rebecca opposite Robert Taylor (no relation) who was the title character. Even in her supporting roles, Ms. Taylor really dominated the screen with her talent!

My actual favorite movie with Elizabeth T. is "Giant". She's at the height of her beauty - it was at times a slightly thankless role, but I loved her performance and thought she was a stunning referee between James Dean and Rock Hudson in their respective roles.

Giant, Cleopatra, Who's Afraid of Virginia Wolf and Cat on a Hot Tin Roof are my favourite. I'd have to pick Cleopatra, though...or Giant...ok, I can't pick, but to see her in those two roles is insaaaanely amazing to me.

Ya, so where's Giant on this list? One of my favorite movies. #fail

My fav was Giant. You can't get any better than Liz Taylor, Rock Hudson and James Dean.

My absolute favorite, too. With maybe Father Of The Bride with Spencer Tracy a close second.
