Disney Cruise Ship Crewmember Reported Missing At Sea

03/24/11 06:55 PM ET   AP

MIAMI -- A crewmember on a Disney cruise ship has been reported missing at sea off the western coast of Mexico.

Disney Cruise Lines spokeswoman Christi Donnan says the female crewmember was reported missing Tuesday morning after she failed to report for a scheduled shift on the Disney Wonder.

The woman's name was not released. Donnan says Disney conducted a thorough search of the ship Tuesday.

The Mexican Navy was searching along the ship's route from Los Angeles. The U.S. Coast Guard and FBI were also notified.

Investigators from the Bahamas Maritime Authority will meet the ship Friday in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. All three Disney cruise ships are registered in The Bahamas.

Foul play or an accident. I'm praying they find her.

Or suicide. And highly unlikely they will find her at this point -this late.

Wow...How did this news leak out? Don't these cruise lines have tighter security than the CIA to keep bad news out of the public eye?
12:59 PM on 03/25/2011
Nope, where did you get a crazy idea like that.

In addition to life vests for every passenger they need to provide mace and 45's.

You think she may have jumped because she found out she made less than Goofy?

She might have fallen or jumped.

A difficult situation, to be sure. However, look at the foto of the ship itself. Doesn't it look odd? It looks so top heavy; like any big wave could just push it over on its side or make another Poseidon Adventure.
12:24 AM on 03/25/2011
It is high for a reason, it rocks gentler, it rolls further to the side, it means you rock gently in your sleep, now the Training Ship Empire State VI is a cargo ship and it rocks like a whip!

Seriously, it's time.

It's high so that you can more fat people onboard and give each of them a window, while maintain plenty of shopping lower down. They don't do weather, although they would be quite exciting if there was a fire.

I wonder if anyone (i.e. the FBI) has ever cross-checked the passenger lists of all the cruises where people have gone missing in the middle of the ocean. I wonder if we have a sophisticated, affluent serial killer on the loose.
12:25 AM on 03/25/2011
The ocean is a dangerous place.

The suspect might be affluent, but I very much doubt we'd be looking for a sophisticate.

Is this missing crew member one of those East European kids these ships traditionally work nearly to death?
11:31 PM on 03/24/2011
or could be Filipina.

They don't discriminate.....they work people of any nationality nearly to death, not just the eastern European ones.

My friend was robbed the day after she got on board one of these ships.
She was pushed into her room and robbed and she was sexually assaulted and warned not to report it or she would be killed.
Apparently a dozen people were robbed in three days and the person was never caught.
Inside job?

Let's see the news report of that. Bogus. Ships have security cameras everywhere and extensive security personnel. If I were attacked on a ship I'd certainly report it - to the ship - or at the first port of call.

Cruise ships have a dark history of passengers and crew members going missing or being murdered. And cruise lines work really hard to keep this quiet. Ocean liners can be the perfect hunting ground; after the attack there's an entire ocean to make the evidence disappear. I shudder to think what happened to this woman, and what will happen to the next woman.
