Silvonus Shannon Sentenced: Man Gets 32 Years In Murder Of Derrion Albert

CHICAGO -- A judge has sentenced a Chicago man to 32 years in prison in the fatal beating of a high school honors student that was caught on video.

Circuit Court Judge Nicholas Ford sentenced 20-year-old Silvonus Shannon on Thursday for his role in the September 2009 beating death of 16-year-old Derrion Albert.

Shannon asked Derrion's family to forgive him. But the boy's mother, Anjanette Albert, said there was no way she could forgive Shannon. The judge said he gave Shannon a longer sentence because Albert was defenseless on the ground when Shannon struck him.

Shannon was convicted in January. Two teens have also been convicted in Albert's death and two others still face charges in the attack, which drew widespread condemnation when the video of the street brawl was posted online.

32 years is way too long. Anybody who (beyond a reasonable doubt) beats a respectable 16 year-old honor student to death with a stick and has it documented on video and a multitude of eyewitnesses..... should be given a short and sweet sentence.

When convicted, take him straight out of the courtroom, straight to Joliet and straight to the ELECTRIC CHAIR... without hesitation.

I'm glad this parasite got 32 years. In my opinion he should have gotten life. It's about time the hand of the Justice System(however flawed it may be at times) comes down hard and the heads of these undesirables.

This kid was not a good kid and he deserves everything that ever happens to him.

These urban thugs have no respect for life. They are like wild animals and, still, the left wants to blame someone else for the problem. This kid never even considered the consequences of what he was doing, the strut around thumping their chest and say, I am a man!!! America will continue to slide into more chaos as the left is now encouraging violence and incivility in the streets. They will get it and they will try to blame it on others.
