Axis Of Weasel

aolnews.com:

"Sarkozy is the one who seems not to be afraid and who pushed the rest of the world into moving ahead on Libya. It's the Americans who have the image of being more reserved now."

What a difference almost exactly eight years makes.

In March 2003, Fox News' O'Reilly seized upon the growing animosity against the French for their opposition to the Iraq war and called for a boycott of French products.

Just one quick look at any of the threads related to France here on HP is enough to show that french bashing is alive and well. Some commenters need it to feel all manly and brave.

Don't worry, the French can change sides quickly.

The whole phase of .....freedom fries + cheese eating monkeys...just proved not only how wrong the Americans were.
It proved how shallow and stupid they were.
Today the French are eating cheese and sipping fine wines.
The Americans are eating their real fries at McDonalds......if they can afford it after the country goes broke with those wars the French did not want to fight.
Bon Chance mes amis.

Ah yes, I remember when Groundskeeper Willie first called our Gallic friends "cheese-eating surrender monkeys".

In response, I call Americans "ultra-obese brainless monkeys".

If it had not been for the help of France we would probably still be a colony of merry old England.

right.....and the French had it right about Iraq all along. No weapons of md, and we ended up spending hundreds of billions of dollars, killing thousand upon thousands of innocents: a decade later were still there. . ......fan/fav

As soon as Francophobia is useful again to Republicans, it will return, just like the homo-Islamo-Latino-monster is currently a convenient bogeyman.

Never could understand the hatred of France, while Germany, which also opposed our war with Iraq before the U.N. inspectors could finish their job, was somehow given a pass. Was it that France's government is more socialist than Germany's (is it; I have no idea)? Or that the French are more cultured than the U.S. and the Iraq issue just gave the lowbrows an excuse to France-bash? No matter: in the end, the French were RIGHT on Iraq (no WMDs, folks!) and Bush and his minions were WRONG.

I agree. "We" seem to forget the main reason we are not "loyal subjects" of Britain is thanks to the French. Freedom Fries with our crow ??

Without France, we likely don't beat the British and win our independence.

France lost 1.3 million men killed during WWI. They held off Germany for three years, fighting horrific battles on their own land, while the US sat on the sidelines.

France had the brains to recognize Bush's deceit on Iraq and the guts to say no to taking part in our unjustified invasion.

Lay off France.

Whether it's denying Muslims the right to peaceful religious expression or legislating gays into a second class of person, the French seem to taken a page out of the teabagger xenophobe judicial activist guide.

The funniest part of the whole French stereotype is it's origin in the erronious common perception amongst Americans that they won WW2 by sitting 3/4 of it out and letting Russia do all the work...

Best friend Sadaam...
Best friend Muammar
They're dead and soon to be dead.
Guess the USA could change sides yesterday, today and tomorrow.

In a dumbed down society like America bashing foreigners will always remain popular as we can see by the favorable reaction to Donald the demagogue Trump who is hoping that an ignorant population will give him an edge as he blames foreigners for things we have done to ourselves. American corporations have outsourced jobs because it helps their bottom line and they couldn't care less about jobless Americans.

Today's GOPs prefer an autocratic country like Saudi Arabia to a democratic country like France. It fits their idea of "good government".
