NEW YORK -- Historian Eric Foner has won another prize.

Foner's "The Fiery Trial: Abraham Lincoln and American Slavery" is one of three winners of the coveted Bancroft Prize for history. The prize's administrator, Columbia University, announced Thursday that the other recipients are Sara Dubow's "Ourselves Unborn" and Christopher Tomlins' "Freedom Bound."

Winners each receive $10,000.

Foner, a Columbia professor, won the Bancroft in 1989 for "Reconstruction." His latest book also won the $50,000 Lincoln Prize.

Good for Foner, one of our truly great historians. I highly recommend his "The Story of American Freedom."

Thank you, I was in a bookstore yesterday thinking about reading a history book. I did browse, but left undecided. I will check out this author!
