Serra Barn Malibu Architectural For $11.495 Million

The Huffington Post     First Posted: 03/28/11 04:42 PM ET   Updated: 05/25/11 07:40 PM ET

The listing price for this architectural gem has just been reduced from $14,795,000 to $11,495,000. Located in Malibu's prestigious Serra Retreat, the home known as Serra Barn was completed by architect Michael Kovac in 2009. On 2.6 acres, the home "weds vernacular forms and modern details, providing comfortable indoor-outdoor living" says the firm. According to the Los Angeles Times, this six bedroom, six bathroom house is owned by film producer Steve Alexander and interior designer Vanessa Alexander. The lady of the house is responsible for the interior design of the home, which blends contemporary structure with warm details and elegant furnishings.

Other features include a private theater, gym with sauna, home office, and an outdoor kitchen with a pizza oven. Scott Shrader planned the landscape design, incorporating a fire pit and sitting area to the property grounds and framing the coastal and mountain views.

I shot the home and was thankful to enjoy many days on the property. One of my favorites in all of Malibu. The HDR photography was used to make the place stand out. Yes, a bit saturated and dramatic, but it got people interested in the listing, and it achieved the goal of getting people to call the listing agent to make an appt. for a showing.

This house is so cold and ugly. Not my cup of tea. Guess I like something a little more homey, with a lot less concrete and dull gray tones. As for a style I can respect the Aarchitect's vision but could not think of living in such a cold environment.

This home was built with love - love of beauty, balanced elegance of interior and exterior space- every touch is spot on. We've been so fortunate to have spent may happy times with the family and friends there- a most gracious home-
the new owners will be lucky indeed!

I'll bet it's well insulated and dbl paned windows but it could be, from what I can remember there is no utility gas service to Malibu so your heating is electric so it could be expensive

What a beautiful house. The interior cohabits with the exterior and they both marry the natural landscape. Just gorgeous.

That's what I was going to say. A little is ok, but not so much that it looks funky.

Nice house! Love the fact that the house can open up to the outdoors with the lifting of a wall. Great for those hot LA summer nights.

There are no hot nights in Malibu. There really aren't any hot nights in LA period, with a few exceptions. I still could live there though.

Depending what you call hot. I like it chilly or mild. Not sweltering.
