WikiLeaks Billboard In Los Angeles

Wikileaks Billboard Los Angeles

The Huffington Post   First Posted: 03/25/11 01:53 AM ET Updated: 05/25/11 07:40 PM ET

Via LATaco.com: A billboard with the spectre of Julian Assange looms over the intersection of Highland Avenue and Santa Monica Boulevard in Hollywood. The sign, supportive of WikiLeaks, says "WikiLeaks: Giving Us The Truth When Everyone Else Refuses To."

The billboard is the work of "Nick J." and the 196 supporters of his cause on EpicStep.com, a social fundraising site that specializes in billboard campaigns. Almost all aspects of the billboard were crowdsourced; Nick J. solicited suggestions for the message and graphics, and afterward invited users to decide among three proposed billboard designs.

Nick J. lives in Los Angeles and is studying to be a chiropractor. When asked why he spearheaded the campaign, he said to the Huffington Post: "At some point governments and corporations must have accountability for their actions, just like individuals. If there is no one monitoring their actions, how can we assume that they will act in the our best interests? I feel our government has been less than honest with its people." He also added, "It's not just L.A. that needs to see this message. I would love nothing better than to see this billboard in major cities throughout the nation. Chicago is next."

Excellent!

We need more like this, and the fact that it was citizen-inspired is encouraging.

I wish people would stop crying about wikileaks. What's wrong with knowing the truth? Fox News why are you so scared?!

I like it---it's an original approach. Just as Wikileaks is an original Force.

I was just thinking yesterday that if we had had Wikileaks in late 1945, what a different and much better world we could have now. We might have nipped nuclear poker in the bud. We could have stopped the MIC from its malignant growth. We could have stunted McCarthy and his Red Scare into a whimpering snivel, and on...and on...

Go get 'em, Julian.

My worry is that this is just going to make our government MORE secretive than it already was.

Good luck to him though.

WikiLeaks is definitely doing a better job than CBS, NBC, Fox News, and CNN.

YES!! I love this billboard. I live in LA but I don't drive a car so I never saw this one. I think it is brilliant. I am surprised but pleased. Long live Wikileaks. Solidarity!

AWESOME! Great job supporters. Chicago is next on our radar... http://epicstep.com/campaign/142/support-wikileaks-chicago/

Let's get these billboards up throughout the nation. I willing to contribute $5 to each one lol. On second thought, I am willing to pledge $20 to every city. Nice to know that with epicstep.com if funding goal isn't met I don't get charged. I love this website!

Why would you say that? Have you read what has been exposed about American use of taxes, or should I say "abuse"?

We all seem complacent: But this is the media portrayal as it has been designed to work. Even when FOX news reports that big business is robbing us blind we seem unconcerned, And thoes who are outspoken against it are going to jail and Guantanamo-even if they have such serious character flaws as Assange (Did you really think picking your toe nails at someone’s house will just be over looked as a crime punishable by death) Really, this is the news get!!

Look, In all, I think 90% of the world thinks like me, but the "new social blogging software" makes it look like 99% of us think otherwise so we don’t get the courage our heroes in Tunisia and Egypt have. I speculate that while their might only be 10 hackers in Anonymous and one Julian Assange, there are hundreds of millions that standing behind them waiting for their turn to participate in an ancient human yearning for freedom that the Arab states have heroically demonstrated. There is a real power with the general public today using social media that scares "THE MAN". These are truly interesting times and unless the looters of this world can pick up and fly to a new planet-they might actually fall into a just demise… Unfortunately, for these villains, I will have no sympathy when they are pulled from safety into the angry mob. ; ))
