The Golden Girls star began living in the home in 1975, shortly after her move from New York City in 1972. Curbed LA quotes Arthur as saying, "This is country out here... I can walk around without anything on and nobody cares, and it's just lovely."
From 2005 through 2007, designer Matt Saks completed a renovation of the ranch home and property grounds. The listing states that Saks, “retained the charm... and modified the aesthetics to complete an incredible Spanish Courtyard Estate.” The square footage is now approximately 6,000. On April 25, 2009, actress and activist Bea Arthur lost her battle with cancer. According to the Los Angeles Times, she passed away “at her home in Los Angeles.” She was 86.
