Wa'ad, a 9-year-old from Iraq, was just being a kid when his life changed. He was out walking and casually began kicking around a bottle on the roadside. It turned out to be a bomb that shattered his face and took his right arm and left leg.

Now, one woman, Elissa Montani, is working to help make Wa'ad whole again. Her organization, Global Medical Relief Fund, brings children hurt in the crossfires of war or debilitated in a disaster to the U.S. for treatment, CBS reports.

Wa'ad recently began facial reconstruction at a hospital in Long Island, N.Y. He was able to walk into the hospital on his new prosthetic leg he received at Shriners in Philadelphia.

Based in Staten Island, N.Y., Montani recruits doctors and charities to volunteer treatment -- out of her walk-in closet that's been converted into an office. She tells CBS she uses a simple approach.

"I tell 'em this true story. Here's a child that's battered. I just tell them the reality. I expect them to help. I'm grateful 'cause they don't have to help. But I expect that they would, because how could you not?"

Montani has little money herself and no training in humanitarian relief. She began her work raising money to buy school supplies for kids in Bosnia in 1996. Since then, she has worked to give 100 children back their youth.

This story moved my husband and I to tears! Poor innocent children being blown up. Simply being outside and playing, something we take for granted here in the states, can result in death or a lost limb in war torn Iraq. we have a lot of children in need here in the US, to be sure. But we don't have bombs. This is the cost of war. And I'm so thankful that there are advocates for these children! Such a sad, and inspiring story!

Why did 60 Worthless Biased Minutes not mention Doctors Without Borders?

Because this story wasn't about them.

That is exactly my point. If 60 WBM had an ounce of journalistic honesty they would have asked this woman why she did not join Docors Without Borders which has been doing magnificent medical charity work around the world for years. 60 WBM has an ulterior motive for highlighting this doctor and ignoring all the doctors who volunteer for DWB. :-)

TricksR4kids please step away from the coolade and check out the information link below. It is nice to have an opinion but it is nicer to have an opinion based in fact. BTW 90% of the people in the Mormon Church who have donated hundreds of millions of dollars to help poor and needy people around the world are conservative republicans.

Fabulous segment on 60 Minutes last night. Amazing that this segment as well as the marvelous Basketball Coach working for the good of the people. The 3rd story was about Corporations moving out of the US to avoid paying taxes. What a comparison of 2 stories highlighting the good of human nature - and the 3rd of greed and corruption.

Some humans are evolving beyond greed and self-interest as the sole motivation for taking action in the world. We have a choice.

Exactly - and the Sunday's 60 Minutes episodes showed the choice we have. You are so correct!

What an amazing woman. I wish I had money to donate to her program. Wouldn't it be great if trump used his money for something good like this instead of wasting it on his ego?
