Lots of people have gotten lots of laughs commenting on Couric, and that comes with the territory. But I'm guessing she's saved more than a few lives with her promotion of colon cancer screening. Nice tribute to her late husband. Only possible solace to the pain of that experience. So, good for Katie for using her stage well.

They found several license plates, some seaweed, various species of fish and 2 teeth during the examination.

But In all seriousness I lost my dad at 50 and my uncle at 52 to cancer. She's doing a good thing.

A weird sense of humor is a way of distancing myself from horrible things ( or so I've been told). I hope I don't offend too many people.

Actually, the reason the prior electrolite-laxative (cherry or lemon flavored) is given as a prescription is because people would be taking them all the time as a cleanse. Like water going through a faucet, no cramping, no mess. So I disagree with Ms. Couric on one point. It's not the worst part of the procedure, but the best. (Just too bad she lives in a big house and has to run through a long hallway to get to the john.)

I did it a few years ago, and I actually just bought a bunch of magazines in advance and camped out on the can for a couple of hours until I was done. The most painful thing about it was that my thighs got a little sore from sitting there for so long.

My dad died of colon cancer. While his siblings were out visiting him, saying their good by, they decided to go and get checked. It's a good thing they did as two of them were in early stages of colon cancer. I only wish I could afford to get checked now that I am 48 years old but on my salary, it's not in the budget.

Find a clinic that will do it on a sliding scale.
With your family history, any insurance company will cover an early one for you if your doctor recommends it.

What techjockey said. When I didn't have insurance, I was able to get a cheap mammogram because of my family history.

So what do you need? Besides a miracle.

More people would get one IF they could afford a plan that covers such things.

I had a very close friend pass away at 38 (she was diagnosed at 37) from stage 4 colorectal cancer. There was a family history on her mother's side (her grandpa died of it).
Her 6 years younger brother went in for a colonoscopy immediatley & found that he was stage 2.
This is a hugely genetic disease, so if you have it in your family at all, go in & get a colonoscopy in your mid 20's, as it takes 10 years to grow to stage 4.
I've had one & they are no big deal, whatsoever, the only hard part is the "cleanse" the day before.

I'm not sure she needed to share the details of her love life to make the point about the importance of appropriate health checkups.

I'll always remember her courage in the face of her husband's illness and death from this disease several years ago. Everybody should get one. The procedure is nothing compared to cancer and the potential for death.

This isn't the first time is it? I seem to remember a story like this from awhile ago.

You know what,I get the jokes. I've made plenty myself but this procedure is a life saver, been diagnosed once and several pre-cancerous times that followed. Make the jokes,my friends, but have the damned procedure.Early detection is vital!

...I had one. The uncomfortable part is drinking the purge fluids the night before. The procedure itself - you're out cold, so no worries...

Stay awake for the next one. It really is hilarious seeing ones hairy rear end on the monitor right before they go in for business.

I had to get one done not that long ago. It's no big deal, drinking all that crud is the hard part.
