Kate Middleton Hits Hen Night: Report

Kate Middleton

First Posted: 03/29/11 09:37 AM ET Updated: 05/29/11 06:12 AM ET

Kate Middleton quietly had her bachelorette party a.k.a. "hen night" several evenings ago, according to various British media outlets. The Telegraph writes that the festivities were put together by her sister and maid of honor Pippa and held at a mate's home.

So who was there? The Telegraph has a list of possibilities:

Miss Middleton, 29, was thought to have been joined by friends including Olivia Bleasdale, who shared a flat with her and the Prince at St Andrews University, and Astrid Harbord, who was once romantically linked to Prince Harry.

Alicia Fox-Pitt, a schoolfriend from Marlborough and a fellow member of the Sisterhood dragon boat crew; Rose Astor, the wife of Prince William's close friend Hugh van Cutsem; and Alice Hadden-Paton, who is married to Mr van Cutsem's younger brother, Nicholas, were also among close friends who could have expected an invitation.

Prince Harry's on-again, off-again girlfriend Chelsy Davy reportedly wasn't in attendance.

The night was described as low-key. Earlier in the month, the Daily Mail speculated that the fete would have a "Dirty Dancing" theme. Yes, as in, "I've had the time of my life." No word on if the ladies ran with the idea or what it would entail...except that nobody puts baby in the corner. Nobody.

Prince William's bachelor party, or "stag do," went off without a hitch over the weekend. Read all about it here.

All the papers and readers scoff at her. What has she ever done to you? You read up on her, you follow the press about her then you scoff? I bet you wish you hadn't dumped all that tea in the harbour. Kate is great and all the rest can go for a whee hike.

Yeah!

Nope. I'm thrilled we dumped that tea in the harbor. And that we dropped the needless 'U's, too.
As for Kate, both she and William seem like nice enough folks, and I hope they have happy lives.

At least the headline here is correct. On the front page it said "hen party". I never heard anybody call it a "hen party".

It's the British term for bachelorette party
09:06 AM on 03/30/2011
No, the British term for a bachelorette party is "hen night". Nobody says "hen party". That was my point.

For Americans unfamiliar with the custom, a Hen Night is a special occasion in a British bride-to-be's life where she is flogged with live chickens then forced to wear the carcasses under her bridal gown.

In case our American cousins think that we're a little 'primitive', it would have been better if you'd have added that the chickens are anesthetized first.

Just as long as the future princess doesn't over-do her "bachelorette" soirees and is well enough in the morning to get up to go to work.
