'Daily Show' Correspondent Jason Jones To CBS Pilot 'The Assistants'

Jason Jones

"The Daily Show" may have another correspondent leaping into the big time.

Senior correspondent Jason Jones is set to co-star in the CBS comedy pilot "The Assistants," Deadline reports. He'll play husband to Heather Locklear's character, a celebrity with a freshly hired, star-eyed assistant, to be played by David Henrie. This is Jones' second go-round with CBS; in 2008, he and wife/"Daily Show" co-star Samantha Bee worked on a pilot for the network about a celebrity chef.

Last year, Jones starred in a pilot for ABC, "How to Be a Better American," that was not picked up for series. On "The Daily Show," Jones has had a number of hit segments, but is perhaps best known for his on-location coverage of the Iranian election.

Jones would follow a long line of "Daily Show" correspondents that made the leap from Jon Stewart's sidekick to big time star. The list is led by Steve Carell, the iconic and now departing boss on "The Office" and bonafide movie star, as well as his now-former "Office" co-star Ed Helms, who starred in "The Hangover" and is set for its sequel this summer. Rob Corddry stars in his own series on Cartoon Network, "Children's Hospital."

Then there is, of course, Stephen Colbert, who has his own hit show following Stewart's, as well as a knock-off website.

The daily show is a career maker. How many brilliant comedians have we been gifted with because of this show? And more coming....

Sucks to see Daily Show correspondents move up the ranks and inevitably leave but in a way it's a good thing because it elevates the next generation of stars...

I loved his interview on making drunk driving legal Friday through Sunday and his coverage at the Republican convention. He's Jewish (or at least his character is) and one of the people he interviewed commented something to the effect that good moral values only included Christians and Jason Jones ran with that. It was great.

The Daily Show is going to run out of talent.

Bet there's even more great talent coming.

This guy is annoying. A bowe! movement is more exiting than this no talent hack. He belongs behind a booth at a self-serve gas station.

Love him, but I have to add: Sam Bee's bit on Al-Jazeera English may very well be the most hilarious thing that I have ever seen on television.

Should be a good show. David Henrie is hilarious- a real talent to come out of the Disney machine. Can't wait to see what they pull off.

Love Jones and Bee, let's hope they are the next two from The Daily Show to make it.

Plus they are married. It would be the second cute couple to find success from the Daily Show (the first being Steve Carell and Stephen Colbert, of course!)

I never felt he had much in the way of 'spark' or personality on the Daily Show. Very two-dimensional compared to Carrel, Colbert or even John Oliver. ...just saying or am I (Glenn Beck)

Jason Jones has delivered one of the best jokes ever told. When interviewing Bill Keller of the NYT he says, "What's black and white and red all over?" to which Bill replies smugly, "A Newspaper." And Jason says "No, your balance sheet." Never has there been so much ownage.

While it may be a double-standard, the fact that she's a good 6 years older than he is will make this a tough sell. Her plastic surgery is taking its toll.
