We don't need this. Ethics concerning e-mail content should never, ever be under scrutiny for ad targeting. Google, et al, must revise their policies -- immediately. The last thing I want in my in-box...is more cra-p-0la...

I used to play a little game in GChat, how quickly would an ad come up related to what I was typing. Worked every time.

Ad company = evil.

You are not customer. You are product.

Founders want to be good?

Become a non profit with the mission of bringing information to world.

Or charge people and make them your customers.

Because the ad business is and always will be an evil business.

My Gmail has been doing this for ages.... At first I thought it was a creepy coincidence, but then I noticed the consistency of how much ads pertained to my most recent received emails. Now its ALMOST kinda cool.

This from Google's GMail settings .... " If you don't want to see ads in Gmail you have the option of using the HTML interface, or POP or IMAP. We're also committed to data liberation: if you decide to switch to a new email provider, it's easy to set up automatic forwarding for all new messages that arrive in your Gmail account."
Is their definition of opt-out to leave the service? They certainly do not make it easy for the consumer to navigate privacy settings. If they make it confusing enough they know the user will continue using the service without changes
