latimes.com:

Financially strapped KCET-TV is in talks to sell its landmark Sunset Boulevard studio to the Church of Scientology, according to people who know about the pending deal.

The Los Angeles television station, which is struggling to rebuild viewership after its recent split from PBS, plans to move its operations to a smaller location, real estate brokers said. Station officials have been touring potential sites, brokers said.

Hope KCET-TV get a good price for the building. CO$ can afford it with their exhorbitant course fees and slave workers. (Actually I feel sorry for the slave workers)

Lu and jbasoon commenting on this article are the same Scientology Office of Special Affairs "internet handler" posting under two different names, she also goes by Louanne and JeanneBassoon, if not twenty other names.

I wonder who gets to audit Big Bird or Huell Howser with one of those e-meters.

I was really surprised to hear about this. Wonder if it's true. One thing is sure, though. If Scientology buys the studio they will do a beautiful job of restoring it. They are always the best at historical restoration.

KCET is sinking into a hole from where they'll never escape.
12:47 PM on 03/31/2011
The real news here is the KCET is downsizing, and selling the landmark building. I don't see why it should be perceived as something negative. Scientology always does a great job of restoring landmark buildings, as with the case of the Ybor Square Landmark in Tampa.

So what do you need? Besides a miracle.

Yeah. Can't wait for programs that are completely opposed to anti-depressants and democracy.

Freedom of religion is a fundamental concept in our democracy. Obviously it's your assertion that is anti-democratic.

I respectfully disagree with your statement that critics of scientology are "obviously anti-democratic"

It's not anti-democratic to criticize or make fun of a religion. It's our 1st amendment right, the same right that allows you to be part of something many of us view as a money-making pyramid scheme that in point of fact only declared itself a religion when the FDA busted them for practicing medicine without a license.

You still have your religious freedom, you have a right to be a scientologist or whatever you prefer, and those of us who criticize and mock it and say it's a for profit business that exploits people for money also have a democratic right to say so.

Your freedom to believe in Scientology or any religion goes hand in hand with our freedom to say we disagree.

There is nothing undemocratic about criticism, it's just as much a right as your right to give your money to what many of us view as a destructive scam.

Making fun of any religion (or of atheism, for that matter), and especially one whose structure and practices are not very democratic, is not "anti-democratic"

Wow...LA and its far left have led what could have been a great city on the rise to what can now be called Detroit by the Sea......nothing says decline like this...it was bad when all the banks left, some studios folded, but this is amazing.
12:29 PM on 03/31/2011
Obviously you're in your mothers basement somewhere in the mid-west....Have you ever been to LA?? "Detroit by the Sea"....actually....that's pretty clever but completely irrelevant seeing as both big & small business is booming in the city.

uh...not quite...and, I live in the best (defined by price) area of Los Angeles...don't know which big and small business you have in mind except the port, airports, and DWP...lots of gyms renting huge box stores that have left, new drug stores all owned by Canadian companies, Thai massage parlors, I deal with LA statistics and trust me, you are cheerleading and that is not a bAd thing but you are letting it cloud your vision....LA is not thriving. The leadership and government are flailing around and it now depends upon playing racial cards to maintain itself...That has not worked in Detroit, Cleveland, Miami, or anywhere else...Sorry, I live LA because I have the means to enjoy it....I am not the majority but I have seen LA when it had good leadership, and optimism and none of that is present now.....

Scientoligy is a business. Not a religion. That is why they own hundreds of buildings in Los Angeles alone. It's time we woke up and started to tax these businesses that seem to be able to keep building and growing tax free. Wake up.
12:26 PM on 03/31/2011
Ignorant statement....what do you suppose all other religious entities do to expand their presence?
