Stanford Admissions

For this year's college applicants, it was that much harder to get into the nation's No. 1 dream school, Stanford.

The Stanford Daily reports that the acceptance rate for the class of 2015 dropped to 7.1 percent from 7.2 percent last year.

According to the San Jose Mercury News, Stanford's acceptance rate in 2009 was 7.6 percent.

More than 34,000 students applied to the school this year, and 2,427 of them were accepted.

Stay tuned for more admissions decisions as they are announced.

Stanford is the No. 1 dream college? Wow, that's clear evidence of how morally destitute this country is. Stanford should be regarded as the worst school in America, due to the school's provost, Condi Rice's service in the Bush admin. Rice showed that history, the law, religion, arts - basically every damn subject you could study in college - are ALL irrelevant. She advanced policies based on lying, cheating, corruption and murder, then returned to Stanford to teach. I can't believe the alumni of Stanford have stood for this, but again, that just shows the utter destitution of this facility. Stanford is by far the worst college in the U.S.

Harvard's and Columbia's were about 6%.

amazing, isn't it. actually, acceptance rates in 2010: Harvard 6.9%, Columbia 9.2%. These numbers will probably be about the same for 2011, or drop 0.1%, as did Stanford's rate.

Stanford about as selective as Harvard, but acceptance is slightly easier for Columbia (but good luck trying!).

Yes, but you are quoting last years statistics. This year Columbia joined the common app (Harvard and Stanford have been in it for four or five years), and Columbia saw a jump in applications by over 32%. That is why Columbia's acceptance rate this year will be close to Harvard's at about 6.6% (the two lowest in the ivy league.)
