Woman Can't Close Her Eyes After Bungled Plastic Surgery (VIDEO)

First Posted: 03/30/11 02:53 PM ET Updated: 05/30/11 06:12 AM ET

And now for an eye-opening look at the dangers of plastic surgery: a New Jersey woman is suing her doctor, claiming she cannot fully close her peepers after a cosmetic procedure.

Marilyn Leisz showed CBS New York news to what extent her eyelids can touch, explaining, "That's how it is when I sleep. That's how it is 24-7, 365 days a year." She added that she fears scratching her eyes at night and that she's losing her vision. "All the favorite things I used to, like tennis, racquetball, swimming, horseback riding, bike riding, skeet shooting, gardening, I can't do those things," Leisz said.

Dr. Paul Parker's defense points out that Leisz never complained since the 2005 operation and that she was warned of the risks involved because she's gone under the knife so many times.

There's no word on how much Leisz is seeking in damages.

On a bright Note she still have her Life. Many recently have been loosing their life to mishaps on the operating table, and sadly they won't be around to sue anyone.

This woman makes a lot of claims, but the only one which appears to be a fact is that it is hard for her to fully close her eyes. She loses credibility with her claims that she is losing her eyesight which is unrelated to the procedure.
It is not fair to the surgeon for her to bring her complaint to the courts without first going back to the surgeon to see if there is a correction or other remediation of the problem.
She has my sympathies, but going to the courts to solve her problem is the wrong first move and is an example of one reason why health care is so costly today.

Inability to close eyes causes corneal abrasions when sleeping and severe dry eye which leads to more corneal damage which leads to vision loss and the need for corneal transplantation. It IS related to the procedure. It is critically important to your vision and your well being to be able to completely close your eyes

This is horrific. She doesnt deserve this. Women have this surgery every day; my sister had it a long time ago. Just because they chose this procedure doesnt mean they deserve going blind over it.

She should have been told she wasnt a candidate. I was told I wasnt a candidate for Lasik; thank God the doctor was honest with me. I could be blind now like my coworker who was also not a candidate but was never told that and after his Lasik he went completely blind because both of his retinas detached and several surgeries later never brought back his sight. Have some compassion, people.

Vanity and Gluttony, two of the seven deadly sins. This situation is all preventable if people were not vain or greedy.

I agree with you in that this situation is preventable if people aren't vain but gluttony (overeating) and greed (excessive acquirement of "things") are two different sins. They are even listed separately when talking about the seven deadly sins: sloth, greed, gluttony, lust, anger (wrath), pride, and envy. Just an FYI for ya. Also not sure how gluttony would have been relevant in this case (she wasn't much of an overeater, unless she'd had it all lipoed away). Maybe pride and vanity is a better combo here...

And this is one of the reasons I would never consider elective cosmetic surgery (the other reasons are $$$, $$$, & $$$).

I would LOVE to have my eyebrows back where they were mumblesomething years ago. I would LOVE to have tight skin over my cheeckbones again. But, I know I would be that 1 in 10,000 (or whatever the statistical probability is) where the scalpel nicks a nerve or damages a muscle & I would have one half looking great, the other half sagging & immovable.

I'm no beauty now, but compared to what may happen, I don't look all that bad. :P

She should look at the brighter side of things (no pun intended). Just imagine, she wants to take a little nap at work...

Do you know anyone who has gone blind? Do you think that is funny?

Everyone has this preconceived notion that doctors walk on water, and cannot do wrong. The scary thing about all of this is that a doctor could have had a thousand things go wrong for her overnight, or the day before, and yet they cannot exhibit any human characteristics. Unfortunately until we become perfect, mistakes will happen. The price is too costly...
