Katie Holmes On 'The Kennedys,' Suri's X-Rated Gummies

Katie Holmes is out in full force to promote her controversial new miniseries, "The Kennedys," and well, clear the air about a recent candy mishap.

Holmes stars as Jackie Kennedy in the Joel Surnow-produced eight part miniseries about America's most famous political family. Airing on ReelzChannel after being dropped by The History Channel, it has received mostly negative reviews thus far.

While critics say the show unfairly portrays the family in a harsh light, Holmes told Entertainment Weekly that she gained a stronger admiration for her character.

"I had my idea of this lady, but I didn't realize the extent of what she did for our country and her influence on foreign policy, how she brought such elegance to the White House," Holmes said. "Her manners were impeccable. She created the idea of Camelot. She was so very wise. You never really know, playing a real character like that. The challenge was honoring her and also making it my own."

Meanwhile, she's also dealing with a far sillier media outcry: her four year old daughter's choice of gummi snacks. Speaking to Ellen DeGeneres in an episode of her show set to air Friday, Holmes explained the situation behind the photos snapped of Suri with some X-rated candy.

"Recently, I took her to get ice cream in New York at this place called Serendipity that we go to all the time," she said. "It's for kids. The clientele is children. We go in and we are waiting for a table and she grabs some gummies that are boy part gummies. I was horrified.

"They are called p-e-n-i-s gummies and they look like it," Holmes continued. "She was holding the box and I was like ok, wow we don't need that right now. Because I thought if I said put that back and then she's going to say, what is this? And I really didn't want to have that conversation. I was like, why are selling these here? This is for kids. And then it was on the cover of a magazine that I'm giving her those gummies."

Needless to say, Holmes quickly put them back on the shelf.

Does suri ever walk?

Serendipity is NOT for children and its clientele is ADULTS. They don't even have high chairs. The restaurant has been around since the 50's and Andy Warhol was known as a regular there. I don't know why Katie bothered to lie and say the clientele is children, when it's not.

I think Suri Cruise is autistic and isn't getting the therapy she needs. No one ever sees her smile. Supposedly she can talk but you never see any photos or videos that imply otherwise.

They are lazy parents and are letting Suri grow up a spoiled brat. So what your kid grabs dirty candy, you put it back. If I had done that, my Mom would have said no and that was it.

If she's basing her newfound knowledge on the script, she's been bamboozled. Try picking up a history book Katie, if your scientology handlers allow that.

Don't care about the gummies. Non-issue.

Completely aside from everything else surrounding her and him and their cult I'm still continuously struck by the degree of asymmetry of her face. I know everybody has it. But she almost looks like she's had a stroke. I've never seen one of her movies, so for those who have, is it that obvious on screen too?

I wondered the same thing. Her face is unusually lopsided. Bad botox?

As a member of the 'mama club', I completely agree with you! That would totally happen to me and I'd have to find a lesser embarrassing option to manage it. Kudos to Katie for a change!

L Ron Hubbard said it was ok for Suri to have the candy - and he is like a god.

who cares if a kid sees a penis? kids see horrifying examples of killing, mayhem, and human insanity every day and its ok? its part of the human body and nothing to be ashamed of...thats the problem with this world people are taught to be ashamed of their sexualities and body but violence to solve ones problems is glorified...something is terribly wrong with that picture

It sounds like you don't have children. Kids don't need to see nudity in the abstract, ie. just a penis. It doesn't make sense to them and it isn't made for them. In this case, it isn't a child seeing a parent nude, it is exposing a child to adult sexual humor and it isn't age appropriate.

It's called parenting. Have the damn conversation!

Seriously!! It's not like the gummy penis was attached to a gummy vagina. I can understand not wanting to have the sex talk at that age but I can't believe that at 4 or 5 she hasn't been shown any kids books about the body.

I will not be watching the new Kennedy miniseries. I used to like Katie Holmes but she has become a controlled Scientologist robot and I don't really care about her or Tom Cruise. As for the gummy candy...well, that could happen to any of us as parents.

Did she have any concern about the gummy sugar sticking to her child's teeth?
How could she possibly not have known anything about Jacqueline Kennedy as First Lady?
Granted, I lived through those times, but, plenty has been written, filmed, documented.

JFK was in the White House in the early 60s. That's ancient history to someone Katie's age. The Kennedys aren't relevant today. This movie appeals to people your age, not people her age.

People are so PC nowadays it's astounding!

Wait -- "PC nowadays" implies that you think there was a time when people thought it was cool to give penis-shaped candy to four-year-olds. When was that, exactly?

Message to the Kennedy Clan; You complained for weeks about this mini series & the result is that more people will watch it. There's more than enough censorship by the powerful & wealthy when we turn on our TV's. It's past the time to get over yourselves.

Take a cue from Jacqueline; Stay quiet, stop giving extra attention to yourselves and show a little class.
