Katie Couric Replacements For 'CBS Evening News' (PHOTOS, POLL)

First Posted: 04/04/11 12:49 PM ET   Updated: 06/04/11 06:12 AM ET

With news of Katie Couric's departure from the "CBS Evening News" all but official, talk is quickly turning to who will replace her at the anchor desk. The network newscasts may not be the titans they once were, but they're still the most-watched news programs around, and anybody who gets the gig will be occupying a very prestigious position. Below, see some of the hotly--and not so hotly, and purely speculatively--tipped picks for potential Couric replacements. Be sure to tell us whether you think these people could actually take Couric's spot, or whether hell will freeze over before that happens.

There really are few real journalists warming up in the bullpen, and networks wouldnt have the nerve to hire someone like Matt Taibbi, so in the interest of ratings, how about.....let's see....PeeWee Herman.....or Joan Rivers.....or a rotating anchor team of deposed/just about deposed dictators. I'd love to see Moubarek do the news one week, Khadaffi the next, followed by the guy from Cote d'Ivoire. It might be fun.
Still, I'm holding out for a Mike and the Mad Dog reunion on a news show.

Anderson Cooper would be a good choice.I'd watch that news program. But Beck-seriously.Its bad enough the inflamatory things he says are only on cable tv.

I forgot my favorite female - Erica Hill. Loved her on CNN and don't see enough of her on the morning show. She is good. Betty Nguyen is also good. She's on late night now.

It's amazing that Glenn Beck could even be considered a "news" personality. He's more in line with Maury Povich.

Aaron Brown and Thalia Assuras as co-anchors, even better.

Anderson Cooper would be an OUTSTANDING CHOICE!!! But second and third choices would be John Roberts and Scott Pelley. The worst choice would be Glenn Beck... CBS does not need any Opinionated Fox Channel "Republican" Rejects... His mouth will get him into trouble and CBS does not need that...

Does it matter who replaces her? No one watched her or CBS in general for news. Most of those candidates are a) old news b) lack the gravitas (that means you Ann Curry and others or c) aren't taken serious. No wonder they are always 3rd out of 3.

they are alot better than NBC or ABC or sly FOX

Ann Curry void of personality should never be considered.
Lester Holt is the perfect candidate.

Why don't they giveit to the ex-homeless man that everyone fell in love with, Ted Williams?
12:47 PM on 04/06/2011
My vote would be for Ann Curry! They've wasted her ability for years!

What's that spinning sound....ohh it's Walter Cronkite in his grave at even the idea of Glenn Schmuck I mean Beck, taking over a real news desk.
