Xtreme Desserts Opens In Studio City

The Huffington Post     First Posted: 04/04/11 05:02 PM ET   Updated: 06/04/11 06:12 AM ET

It's time for LA to experience a new dessert craze: the cookie sandwich. Xtreme Desserts opened just a few weeks ago in Studio City, bringing unique flavors and guilty pleasures to Angelenos with a sweet tooth. The bakery specializes in the cookie sandwich, though it makes other sweets--like brownies and cakes--as well. "I've basically been making my favorite desserts into a cookie sandwich," owner Glenn Panitz says of his signature item, "and we are constantly recreating desserts. Like right now I've got a chocolate malt cake, and some of our newer cookie sandwiches are the Strawberry Lemonade and the Peppermint Patty."

Panitz started making desserts for his poker buddies about four years ago and his passion soon evolved into a business venture. He began selling his desserts online and at other locations around town, so even before he set up permanent shop on Ventura Boulevard, his desserts already had a bit of a following in LA. Stars like Ray Ramano have been known to indulge in some of Xtreme's baked goods, and Panitz tells us Lakers coach Phil Jackson's favorite cookie is the Pecan Pie Maple. Panitz says the shop's signature cookie--and its most popular--is the Red Velvet Cookie, which sandwiches cream cheese frosting between two red velvet cookies sandwich with cocoa and cinnamon crumble on top. To check out some of the other goodies available at Xtreme Desserts, see the slideshow below.

Xtreme Desserts is located at 11990 Ventura Blvd, Studio City, CA 91604

Simply the best cookies I've ever eaten. I know my grandmother who spent her entire life in the kitchen is spinning in her grave the hear it, but there it is. Terrific stuff!

There is nothing like Xtreme Desserts! My husband and I love the cookies so much, we had an Xtreme Desserts cookie tower at our wedding instead of a traditional, boring cake. Not only was it spectacularly beautiful, but the cookies were to-die-for yummy! (We ordered WAY more than we needed, and there was not a crumb left!) If you are looking for amazing, this is the place to go.

To love Xtreme Desserts is to taste Xtreme Desserts! Let the cheap cookie haters go to another run-of-the-mill bland cupcake store. But if you want a dessert that will change how you think a cookie should look and taste like, then Xtreme Desserts is your place! My personal favorites are the Red Velvet and Peppermint Patty. And I don't even like Peppermint! Do your taste buds a favor and try just one cookie. I dare you! You'll be hooked for life!!!

I dare you to walk in and try just one bite of the White Chocolate Apple Pie Cookie. You have no idea on what you are missing out on. I have been hooked ever since I had been given a sample. Don't let those snotty foodies tell you not to visit there. Come on people...this is America...Make your own decisions instead of conforming.

This place is amazing. All the desserts are great, but my favorite is the Red Velvet and the Pecan Pie. Try them once and you will be hooked. If fact just thinking about them I'm heading over there right now for a cookie.

Since it sounds like none of the people commenting here have ever tried Xtreme Desserts, let me add my two cents as someone who has actually consumed the desserts they make there. The Red Velvet Cookies are amazing... without compare - to any bakery here or abroad. Their prices are in line with the competition. My son loves the chocolate chip peanut butter sandwich cookies and my daughter is a big fan of the carrot cake cookies. They may look basic, but what makes these desserts extreme is how delicious they taste! Just try one of the Red Velvet Cookies and you'll agree.

You couldn't be more wrong. My family LOVES these amazing cookies and we give these as gifts. People love them. Gotta try them!!! What's great about them is that they are not overly sweet. That is no easy task. So many creative combinations.

They look pretty basic to me, I don't get how they are extreme. Nothing special.

I live in Studio City...you are right...and, they are overpriced....sorry...

Are they in the mini mall with Trader Joe's? The Chocolate Malt Cake looks awfully tempting.

Take one bite and you will see just how extreme they are. I was at a party on Saturday where these cookies were served and they were incredible. Each cookie had it's own distinct flavor, unlike some other bakeries where everything looks different but tastes the same. White chocolate chip apple pie - WOW!

Not trying to sound snotty, but having been to both France and Japan the look of these dessert don’t come knee high to the their run-of-the-mill neighborhood pastry or tea shops. Why can’t we get great (I’d settle for just good) pasties here, at a reasonable price?

We can, just not as easily...In Studio City, I discovered a Portuguese bakery and it is excellent..on the West Side there are a couple of great and above average even by Euro standards..Sweet Lady Jane, Michel Richard....

I don't even eat much in the way of dessert and I am still glad I do not live near this bakery.
