Mark Wahlberg Landing New Starring Role?

After taking the lead in an Oscar-nominated drama, Mark Wahlberg may be headed for a new comedy.

Variety reports that Wahlberg, who produced and starred in "The Fighter," has signed on to produce and may star in Universal's newly acquired action comedy, "Bait and Switch." Variety says that the producers are developing the film with Wahlberg in mind as the lead.

Wahlberg is already well established in the action comedy genre; he starred with Will Ferrell in "The Other Guys," and opposite Steve Carell in "Date Night," both in 2010. And Wahlberg is well known for his action roles; along with playing a boxer in "The Fighter," he's taken star turns in films such as "Three Kings," "Max Payne" and "The Departed."

Wahlberg has already signed on for another comedy this year; he's in the midst of filming "Ted" with Mila Kunis. He plays a man-child haunted and bullied by his talking teddy bear.

In March, the actor said that he was working on a sequel to "The Fighter," telling the story of boxer Mickey Ward's later fights.
