James Franco: 'Social Media Is Over'

James Franco Social Media

James Franco, who has been on Twitter for just a month and a half, is already disenchanted with the social media service.

According to Politico, Franco has said, in no uncertain terms, that he thinks social media is on its way out.

"Social media is over," he said. "Still up there. Going down. You heard it here first."

He said of his experience on Twitter thus far, "My thought was 'this is my Twitter. I can do whatever I want.' But certain companies I work with contacted me about what I was saying."

He also advised aspiring writers to spend more time typing and less time on Facebook.

"If you want to write, make the time. We all have an hour or two a day that can be used for surfing Facebook or writing. No one is going to beg any new writer to write," he explained.

Warren Buffett is also lukewarm on some social media services: he recently described social networking sites as "overpriced."

I just had to say that.

Oh yeah. James Franco. Didn't he used to be somebody?

What exactly do people expect from a person who is THAT high THAT much of the day? I'm surprise he didn't deem language and not-flying to be dead as well. When you're that high, you think we can all just think to each other and fly like Superman to get our munchies.

Seriously, he's REALLY high nearly all the time.

....great actor though.

Well if James Franco says it's over, I guess we can all go home now.

In Egypt they used social media to overthrow the government; in the U.S. we use it to cheat on our significant others. Like anything else, the value is in the use.

James Franco's writing reminds me of that South Park episode about 'The Poop that takes a Pee.' The more ridiculous and horrible the writing, the more people will love it because it's so "profound" and "isn't he just so creative?!" "he's such a raw artist!" The guy is a over-hyped, stoner t00l. This is just my opinion! I know a lot of people genuinely like him.

Social media can be a force if used for a good purpose. Instead many only want to share the most silly things. Before Twitter and FB I did not care what coffee you drank at starbucks or what your cat looks like in a dress. After Twitter and FB, I still don't care about these things.

The hype will die down, but social media is here to stay.

"Over-priced" maybe. Possibly "over-hyped" as well. But just plain "over"? Sorry James, I think you might be wrong on that one. With the majority of the planet's population still to be connected to the internet, and the vast untapped intellectual potential represented by that audience, I think the show is only just beginning.

He's wrong on this one. I, personally, am not a fan of social media. It just doesn't work for me and how I prefer to interact with people. That doesn't mean that it doesn't work for the rest of the world. And, since our kids are raised on it and eat, breath, and drink it, then it's around to stay.

Excuse me, I must go close my Facebook account. James Franco says so.

I guess if James Franco says it, it must be true.

Buffet is more correct than Franco, but both have some truth. Most social media will lose its luster, but there will always be a social media community, It just wont be as saturated.

I didn't get as big of a tax refund as I thought I would. The IRS is over. You heard it here first.
