Hugh Jackman Offered 'Snow White And The Huntsman' Role

Hugh Jackman

Hugh Jackman knows a thing or two about playing the rugged hero, and he may be lining up another epic role.

Deadline reports that Universal has offered Jackman the role of the Huntsman in their upcoming Snow White film adaptation, "Snow White and the Huntsman." The film already stars Kristen Stewart as the titular princess and Charlize Theron as the Evil Queen.

The studio thought they might have their lead man in Viggo Mortensen, but he recently dropped out of contract negotiations. Jackman became available when his expected "Wolverine" film lost director Darren Aronofsky. He was recently in India accepting an award, and told the press there that he was interested in pursuing Bollywood roles.

The film will be a re-imagining of the fairy tale. Jackman, or whoever gets the role, will play a Huntsman that is charged with killing Snow White in a forest, but instead begins to train her for combat.

The film, which will open in December 2012, rivals Relativity's Snow White film, "The Brothers Grimm: Snow White." That movie will feature Lily Collins as Snow White, Armie Hammer as Prince Andrew and Julia Roberts as the Evil Queen.

It seems Hollywood has forgotten that there are other audiences out there besides the CGI, ninja loving group. Give us a good story for goodness sakes....not a remake, not a strange take on a fairy tale...an original good story.

When you have Kristen Stewart as the lead, you somehow have the feeling the show is going to suck...

What happened to the dwarves?

I can watch Hugh Jackman any day of the week, but Hollywood needs to get back to originality and stop with this revamp move on the old stuff. Some classics are to be left alone. Does Hollywood plan on making the 7 dwarfs ninja's also? Will Bambi seek justice for it's momma being shot? When does it end?

Are the hollywood writers still on strike or something? cause seriously folks WTH? Reboots and adaptations seem much more like mutilation and destruction. I know get a grip... I'm sorry but I don't know if I can, lol. I can understand someone wants to spin a different take on an old story. okay fine... whatever. but seems to be the only thing getting top billing these days. so when every once in a while someon puts something out work watching, but still mediocre, and everyone goes goes bananas because they've been smother with garbage.

I'm sorry about the rant folks. :)

I'd love to see Charlize and Hugh in something hotter than Snow White.
Come on writers. They should inspire anybody.

Charlize and Hugh in a love story would be sooooo sexy. Someone should get on that right away.

Kristen Stewart?! Really?! And the whole idea of training Snow White for combat is so cheesy. I'm all for a strong female character, but you have to keep things historically accurate...assuming they'll set the movie in medieval times.

I was thinking the same thing! What is she going to do, bore her enemies to death?

Probably throw killer apples at them. lol!

You're kidding? Combat training? Is this going to be like that terrible version of Alice in Wonderland where they were running around shooting at each other in London or something? (Not the Johnny Depp one, LOVED that one.) Good grief, can't these people just think up something NEW instead of trashing fairy tales?

This is odd. Hollywood often has two movies with similar premises open around the same time. Two volcano movies, two meteor movies, etc.

Nice and all, but when is Hollywood going to start making movies for grownups?
