Keith Olbermann: President Obama 'Let The Terrorists Win' With Gitmo Choices (VIDEO)

First Posted: 04/06/11 12:56 PM ET Updated: 06/06/11 06:12 AM ET

Keith Olbermann harshly criticized President Obama for his decision to try 9/11 mastermind Khalid Sheikh Mohammed in a military commission instead of a civilian courthouse.

In an online "Worst Persons" video released Tuesday, Olbermann said that the president's decision meant that "the one legacy of President Bush that he actually took a step to correct, the one corner of the stable he decided to clean, he's now going to leave filled with a very toxic waste."

He also called the move politically "tawdry," but said that the worst thing about the decision was "how the world will now view us. The sad reality here is that we...have told the world that the American system of justice...is incapable of dealing with terrorist scum...in short, we've let the terrorists win."

Strangely, Conservatives are taking 2 positions:
1) That Keith is irrelevant, and they don't care, which they seem to be lining up to say as if there's *something* bothering them...
2) That Keith is always wrong, although he's lambasting Obama, which has been their posture since the campaign.

And what right wing site attacked the president thusly (probably while upsetting Mika)? Oh, no, it was that right wing HP!

And whose words were they? Why that paragon of right wing thought, Joe's friend, Keith Olbermann!

Let's have him on the show tomorrow to debate this with Mika!!!!!!!

Gotta love those libs incapable of facing the failure of their leader.

If you think Olberman thinks the President is a failure, you have another think coming, my friend.

He is right we should have never let the GOTPs cowardice sway us from putting these criminals infront of a judge. We are America and our justice system should mean just that, justice not politics.

They will be put not in front of one judge only, but three judges: it's called tribunal.

Good question.

You mean you do not know one of the most important and truthful men on the National stage who stood up to Corporate Right Wing media - including his own GE owned networks.

You mean the American hero is unknown to you.
You must be lame.

You mean the disgraced sportscaster who has been fired from every job he's ever had??

I think Keith will go down in history as a great political commentator - and American hero.
You will not be remembers or have any fans I suspect (well maybe the 10 dolts here).

Keith is gaming the GOP. It is so obvious. he just stole one of their talking points.  Now they can't use it because it will mean agreeing with him.

Brilliant!

Go Keith.

Olbermann is like the Black Knight in Monty Python's The Holy Grail. He's had all his arms and legs taken, but still squawks away from somewhere, who knows where.

President Obama has 10000% more information about the situation than Olbermann does, yet the latter sees fit to denigrate the President from some apartment somewhere. Hey Keith, being President of the United States is a wee bit tougher than leading the peanut gallery for 3 minutes a month.

To Dosadi, Keith and Obama are vindicating Bush. And to Jaz, so to did Bush have that same info, Obama has kept so many of the Bush policies its obvious the lefts hatred of Bush was only political. Here we have Obama keeping gitmo open, reupping the patriot act, killing actually more innocents ( civilians, aka "collateral damage) in Afghanistan via predator drones, keeping the Bush tax cuts, etc, etc. All these things the left abhorred W for they seem to give Obama a pass on.That is one thing I would like answered. Why do you not have the same hatred for Obama that you had/still have for Bush over those things? Obama is proof campaigning was easy, being the pres not so much.I imagine it must be tough for some of you on the left to reconcile that Obama is no better than Bush( at least in those examples)Before /instead of bashing me I would like to know why the double standard exits with most of you, and if any one out there will denounce Obama over these actions/ policies.

Bush also had "10000%" of the information, and yet, he went looking for WMD's that were debunked on Olbermann's program.

I'd listen to the one that had it right. Not the Presidents that are habitually getting it wrong.

But, then I'm not impressed by Authority or Ratings- just by reality.

Everything Oberman said about the message it sends to terrorists and terrorist governments is absolutely true. What Obama is again guilty of is trying to find compromise with the republican/tea party (same thing) so that the nation can recover from the damage wrought by the previous administration and move forward. What Obama underestimated and STILL doesn't get is that the corporate interests that own and dictate to both the republican and tea parties will settle for nothing less than total domination of the economy and the political process itself. To do that they have to prevent him from accomplishing ANYTHING might move the nation forward toward recovery. Any injury their methods inflict on the economy, the political process, national security, even the welfare of the American people is more than acceptable collateral damage to these people. Obama should adopt a "lame duck" attitude and be bold, be confrontational, because that may in fact very well be his best and only hope of accomplishing anything towards a true lasting recovery AND his serving a second term.

Patience folks patience. My take is because he has not yet close Gitmo does not mean it will not be closed. There is no doubt President Obama wants the place close for good, even former President W. Bush wanted the place closed too.

I don't get this... Obama is the commader in chief. What he says goes as far as the military is concerned. I doubt Camp X-Ray is the only military prison on the planet. He's the boss of the military, so if he orders the military to transfer all prisoners to a military prison located somewhere else, even on mainland US, they have to follow the order cause it's comming from their commander. If Obama wanted it closed, it would be.

If the congress refuses to allocate funds for this, Obama cannot move them. He is the c-in-c but Congress holds the funds and can deny them--as they have done
