Royal Wedding Schedule Explained (VIDEO)

First Posted: 04/06/2011 1:36 pm Updated: 06/06/2011 5:12 am

"Good Morning America" went through the schedule for April 29 a.k.a. Prince William & Catherine's wedding day.

First things first, in the morning, the Queen's office will reveal what titles the couple will take. Options for Kate include HRH Princess Catherine of Wales, HRH Princess William of Wales, Duchess of Clarence, Cambridge, Connaught or Sussex...or no title at all.

The rest of the day will go as follows:

  • 8:30 a.m. -- Guests arrive at Westminster Abbey.
  • 10 a.m. -- VIPs arrive.
  • 10:40 a.m. -- Royal family arrives, with Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip last.
  • 11 a.m. -- Kate shows up with her five bridesmaids. A press release will be sent out with dress designer info, sketches and photos. Ceremony will include vows, sermon, blessing of the ring.
  • 12:15 p.m. -- Wedding party will depart for Buckingham Palace for reception thrown by Queen Elizabeth II.
  • 7 p.m. -- Prince Charles will host a more intimate affair for 300.

Of course, this is all British local time. New Yorkers should expect to wake up around 5 a.m. to get ready for the festivities. We'll be sleeping in our tiaras.

Having royals requires a cost/benefit analysis. Is the gain from tourism and merchandise greater than the taxpayer output to support them? I am thinking yes.

I remember watching Diana's wedding on the tv in the kitchen when I was really little. Her dress was so big and fluffy!

I'm so excited for the wedding! I'll be seeing during the day and up all night so I don't miss a thing!

My mom did the same thing for Charles and Diana's wedding, now 30 years later we'll be watching William and Catherine's together.

I won't be up early to watch it (unless I cave and call in sick), but I will watch the coverage when I get home that evening. I know that I'll be sick of hearing about it by April 30th, but I love all weddings, and this is like the wedding of all weddings. She will be a beautiful bride. I can not wait to see William's face as he watches Kate walk down the aisle.

So the non-VIP guests have to wait 2 1/2 hours for the bride? There's a pecking order within the highest level of the pecking order. .

I'm glad I never get tired of posting this: there is no way that she will be Princess Catherine of Wales. The only way that a "Pss C of W" could happen now is if Charles and Diana or Charles and Camilla had a daughter whom they named Catherine. The only people who get prince or princess before their name are children of the monarch and children of sons of the monarch (Psses Beatrice and Eugenie of York, e.g.). She could, if there is no noble title offered, become Pss William of Wales (think Pss Michael of Kent); but if he becomes a duke, she becomes HRH Catherine, Duchess of ~.

Just as the wife of Prince Charles, Diana, was

Her Royal HIghness, the Princess of Wales until her divorce when she became
Diana, Princess of Wales and NOT the Princess Diana.

Ok, for all the "who cares" people posting here.......It is estimated that approx. 2 BILLION people will be watching this wedding on TV. Let's face it, you "uncaring" people are definitely in the minority. I for one will be firing up my TiVo so as to enjoy the pomp and circumstance....and yes, the romantic fairy tale wedding of the century. Pip-pip......

New Yorkers: "we'll be sleeping in our tiaras."

That was close to home when Chelsea Clinton wed her prince charming last year.

They seem like nice people, I'm glad they are happy! William is close to my age so I kind of grew up in the same times as he. I imagine they wish they could get married in peace instead of all the up roar. I wish them lots of luck and love :)

I love it! Weddings are happy occassions and until William says something stupid, like "what is love anyway" or "does anyone ever REALLY fall in in love," I'll hold on to the belief that they have found their true soulmates and life partners. Yeah, I'm sure I sound all sappy and stuff but why not?

What else is going on in the world? America is engaged in at least three wars (that we know of); civil wars and political unrest throughout the world (America included); earthquakes, tsunamis and nuclear meltdowns; economic malfeasance and its resulting destruction; climate change leading to catastrophic global events like famine, drought and mass refugeeism; and on the homefront, a full-scale assault on the middle class, elderly, poor and women's rights; and blatant disregard of the Constitution's two main provisions: provide for our defense and promotion of the general welfare.

With all that (and more) going on, why would anyone be so jaded as to not look forward to a peaceful day of frivolity and merriment? Those against the royals should look at two things: 1) They no longer have any real power, they are just an institution that brings tourism; and 2) They do bring tourism. How much money is funneled into GB as a result of the royal family and people's desire to catch a glimpse of it.

So let it go. Sit back and enjoy the show. Wish William (who seems to have inhereted his mother's good heart) and Kate well.

Reading people claim that they are Americans who fought a war is rather tiresome. It isn't as though all most Americans were in favour of the war or of distancing themselves from the monarchy. As to "who cares" - the fact that American networks are going to be covering it should answer that question for you. I live under a constitutional monarchy, and frankly, the American government and social programs are not the envy of people the world over.

I'm an American who agrees with you 100%. I'll be watching the wedding on television along with millions of other people who never get the opportunity to witness true royalty. I hope you will enjoy the festivities on April 29, 2011.
