World's Biggest Statue Of Christ Symbolises Church's Power In Poland

Worlds Largest Jesus

The Guardian:

Anyone wondering whether modern day Poland is still a fervently Catholic country should head to the Tesco in Swiebodzin, near the German border. There, on the rocky hill opposite the supermarket, is the newest, most audacious religious icon in all of Europe, if not the world: a 33-metre high, rather crudely carved statue of Jesus, which volunteers from the town, along with prisoners on day release from the local jail, have been building for the last 10 years.

On a windy day last week, a crane gently swayed as work continued on the concrete folly, the brainchild of a local priest who claims it is the world's biggest statue of Jesus Christ - bigger even than Christ the Redeemer in Rio de Janeiro, a sore point with the Brazilians who grumble that the Polish Jesus is cheating by standing on a mound.

Jesus was "The Son of Man", as well as God Himself. As That "Son of Man" Jesus atoned for the sin of mankind, not just one race of people. Therefore a statue of Jesus to be entirely accurate can look like any enthnicity of humankind on planet Earth, He uniquely died for all humans, and therefore represented all people. His physical lineage was important, which is why his parents on Earth were both Jews, and He was from the 'House of David' in fulfillment of the scriptures, and he was the child prophesied in the passage, " and the virgin shall give birth ", and the child shall be called 'Emmanuel' (God with us), who then became the "stone that was rejected, has become the corner stone". Nothing about Jesus was ordinary, why should his appearance be any different.

They got one thing perfectly accurate, He is the Magestic King of Kings, Forever !

It looks like a comic book totem. Poor, sad Poland, so many wonderful artists, so many splendid mathematicians, such glorious music, such really bad taste.

What a Proud Moment for the Good People of POLAND that in this world steeped in sin they can have such devotion to Christ, and Love of God as to erect this wonderful statue of the King of Kings with His arms outstretched in welcome to all mankind. God must be especially pleased with the people of Poland. Their Faith has seen them through many difficult years. May the Peace of the Lord be with The People of Poland.

I wonder if that statue in anyway looks like a 33 year old Shephardic Jewish man from 2,000 years ago.

Just more evidence of the Power of God. The statue represents "The Stone That Was Rejected, and Has Become The Cornerstone" Christ the Magestic King of Kings for all eternity !

If that is supposed to look like Jesus, he must have been born on the coast of the Baltic Sea. Definetly not in the mid-east.

And then, as Christianity dies out, they're going to wonder whether they want to keep the thing.

33 meters high. I think we should fund a Polish Flying Spaghetti Monster statue 35 meters high. Its meatballs would be bigger.

That so many people, 2000+ Yeras after He walked the Earth are still doing things like this massive statue, and the one in Brazil, and Basillica's, Cthedral's, church's, charitable organizations, holy Day observances, like Christmas, Easter, etc. to Honor Jesus Christ around the World is proof of the existence of God. Nothing of mere man ever has such proof, or endures for such time, nothing. What Pharaoh, King, Tyrant, Dictator, etc. didn't want his own personal 'Thousand Year Reich', only to briefly fare up, and disappear onto history's Ash Heap and be forgotten. This is a statue of The Son Of God, the impoverished child of the Carpenter in Nazareth, a town famous for its insignificance otherwise, being erected 2000 years after His death by Crucifixtion. Only a complete fool would not see in such actions the power of God.

Its proof of one man's ability to fool and control another man through fear and intimidation, nothing more. The rest is just bunk.

Yea, maybe you should research Horus a Egyptian God that was born a long time before Jesus around the same day, virgin birth whole nine yards. Just saying. To understand how atheist see religion you have to look at the new religions like Scientology. There was a point when people treated Christians how everyone treats Scientologist. You know it just doesn't make sense.

"World's Biggest Statue Of Christ"

Yeah it's big all right, but I'd be more impressed if the eyes blinked and the arm waved like that neon cowboy sign in Vegas.

They see the odd gaggle of tourists pull up in their cars, jump out and have their photos taken, giggling as they mimic the Lord's outstretched arms, before driving off again, never even venturing into town to spend some money.

Well here's another money losing idea from the Catholic church that's not going anywhere.

Do you honestly not see it or do you just not feel like defending your argument?
