Long Island Serial Killer: Cops Have A Suspect

Long Island Serial Killer

First Posted: 04/08/11 11:15 AM ET Updated: 06/08/11 06:12 AM ET

Police said they're narrowing in on a suspect they believe is the "Long Island Ripper."

A source with knowledge of the investigation told the New York Post that cops are "looking at somebody."

The source did not go into further detail.

Since January, police have been searching for a serial killer responsible for the deaths of at least eight prostitutes.

On Tuesday, police announced that they had broadened their search for victims after they discovered the remains of an eighth body.

A day before, news surfaced that searchers found three more sets of remains near Oak Beach.

Nassau and State police will begin a search Monday along both sides of Ocean Parkway west of where the remains were found this week.

"It is possible we missed something," said Suffolk Police Commissioner Richard Dormer. "We tell people they should be careful with any contact they make with strangers, especially women involved in the escort business."

Reporting this as a search for eight prostitutes, rather than eight young women, is offensive. Were they eight cashiers or eight paralegals or eight design consultants, would we identify them by their profession?

HuffPo, please reconsider your reporting on this. These were people's babies, their young ladies, their hopes and dreams for future generations. In the end, eight young women.

it is obviously part of his/her mo. but you are right that the way prostitute is usually used is derogatory.

Condolensces to the family& loved ones of these women murdered. A quick resolution is what we all want to bring this person(s) to justice for these crimes. I hope there are no more to find but can only pray if there are, they are found as well so we can resolve the emotions and facts towards closure.

How ironic. The same Web site the killer used to target victims, the police are now using to target suspects. Read more: http://spotlightposts.blogspot.com/

I would check out Norman Steisel. Except he isn't smart enough to get away with this. He couldn't even buy a $15 bj without getting caught.

The Media has not mentioned - what the arrangement was for transport of these Women to their last client- past e mails and Craigs list investigations may point to the common/contact.

If these prostitutes disappeared - their car's would have been located- which points to- the individuals being picked up for the hook up. clever- planning o the part of the perp

In their sight for a second, and then bam! Typical and no surprise they'll end up losing the serial killer.

Just shy of forty
Tea bagger
Lives at home with parents
Unemployed
Loves guns
Paranoid/Pshychotic

BTW...that is a significant percentage of long island's population

Do you know my brother, or are you just generalizing? 'cause when our parents died he got married and moved in with his wife's parents, otherwise, you hit it 100%.

And I'm not sure you can say it is a significant portion of the Island's population just because all the men are as you describe. Probably only half the female population loves guns.

Never quite forgave the folks for moving us out of Brooklyn. The boredom was indescribable, but that is just in the happening parts of Nassau. Dipping down into Suffolk feels like a permanent fog has surrounded you and you wonder why no one has told them about anti-depressants, which might at least make getting bored an attainable goal. But hey, they're probably really nice when you get to know them.

lol
Sometimes I think it is the water....most of the Long Islanders I meet are such walking cliches....there are nice ones and I visit friends in Massapequa Park AND Levittown but it always creeps me out to go out there ...think Edward Munch's painting "The Scream"

THe Island is a place where really really scared people fled....they thought they were just scared of non-whites but they are scared of life in general consequently they created that
"indescribable boredom. "

They're not.

Catriona, now in a pretty coastal village in France / The last time anyone was killed here was in 1944 and the Germans did it.

"Tea bagger" would have covered all the rest, except for the "Just shy of forty" part.

We Lawng Oylendahs prefer the term 'Son of Dad' or 'The Lopper' as opposed to 'Long Island Ripper'.
