The Comedy Awards Asks 'Are Men Funny?' (VIDEO)

The first annual Comedy Awards premieres Sunday night, and it's aiming to be the most entertaining awards event since MTV first began airing the Video Music Awards. So far, we've seen plenty of brief clips of the show, our favorite of which is the "Jon Cryer Will F*ck You Up" musical number.

The Comedy Awards site has also been releasing exclusives and sneak previews from the night, including this one from the red carpet. In a nice change of pace, VH1's interviewer asked celebrities attending the event if they thought men are funny, and when we were going to start seeing more men rise to prominence in the comedy scene.

in all honesty ms schaal is the funniest person in this project, andy richter being a close second and then it starts going downhill exponentially. by the time you get to jon cryer aka republican most likely to tap his foot in an airport bathroom then no, definitely not.

Most people aren't funny. And the ones who aren't funny laugh the most at unfunny things. True across gender, race, etc. OK maybe the British and Canadians are funnier than everyone else.

Rot your "female supremacy through fake victimization" tripe. If there was ever an occupation that was more absolutely dependent on ability and independent of contrived fake-victimhood 'I didn't get promoted or equal pay because I'm a female' whining, it is that of a stand-up comic. Female supremacists absolutely lack the capacicty to appreciate and respect talent and real work that men do. Men are dam funny. I have been put in pain from laughing so hard at the true comedic brilliance of men. Generally, females genuinely evoke sympathy laughter, if any. This is a classic example that equal opportunity does NOT equate to equal outcome. Female comics have a substantial advantage to male comics in their general sexual attractiveness. Yet the result is what it is. Please spare the world from your oppressive 'feminist', male-bashing. Exploiting the hard work and earned success of male comics by trying to impose the equal outcome of female comics is in deed, in fact, cheauvinist misandry. Do females make good strippers? Equality no?

Christopher Hitchens wrote an article on that point for Vanity Fair a while back. I'm guessing a lot of folks don't remember that or didn't read it. I thought it was just Chistopher Hitchens being himself trying to stir up some attention & debate.

Ok I am one of those people who isn't a fan of female stand up comics. Females are DEFINATELY funny in acting roles and scetch comedy. IMO Jan Hooks. But for some reason there aren't many funny stand up female comics (to me). I don't know why.

Having said that Kristen Schaal is LEGIT funny. She's one of the best stand up comics there is right now. She stands tall among the best of them.
