I'm six months pregnant and last month I was assembling some flat pack furniture. The smell of the wood when I opened the boxes was so good I had the urge to chew on it. Guess what. I didn't. Isn't self control a wonderful thing? If I had eaten a bit would people be patting me on the back and saying "Good for you. You followed your maternal instincts." I think not, and I don't see the difference here except that chewing on flat-pack furniture doesn't increase your risk of gestational diabetes.

I'm vegan and pregnant, but not as far along as Natalie. Here's hoping I don't give in! You'd think with her resources, she'd be able to find some vegan baked goods. I live in the middle of nowhere, Ohio, and manage fine. Most vegan desserts are comparable, if not tastier, than their animally counterparts. Except cheesecake. It's hard to do that right.http://bit.ly/lUGHbe

Just because a pampered movie star can't stay centered doesn't mean there aren't thousands of vegans who can. Step away from being apes (also vegetarians) and EVOLVE.

My nephew and niece graduated from Harvard Medical in 2007 and were vegans during college years. Now they have 2 children, age 5 and 3 also vegan. My nephew is now a general surgeon and my niece an OB-GYN specializing in oncology at Houston, TX, in June her fellowship ends.
They are all healthy and even during her 2 pregnancies stayed with the vegan diet.
Natalie Porter is a star who gives in on the pressures of people around her, including her fiancee.

Everyone's body is different. She felt that her nutrient needs needed to change during pregnancy. She is different than your family. And her last name is Porter. And she is probably not stupid.

It's kinda funny how you corrected veganvamp with the wrong last name. :D

Judging by the steamy scene she had in Black Swan, I guess she realized that vegetables can be used for things other than eating

I'm sure this has been said, but really, moderation is the key. I like the idea of 'meatless Mondays", etc. Not sure I could EVER go completely vegan, but I do eat vegetarian. And I have a friend who is VEGAN and she's completely healthy and she makes some amazing casseroles. It just takes some work and menu planning to get all the nutrition in. I guess it's too easy to pop over to fast food than to plan menues.

Vegan is the farthest thing from healthy...she's a very smart woman, and I hope she seeks out the proper sources for learning about nutrition in the future.

good thing this is the entertainment section because you will not hear of any great physical specimen or sports great talk of being a vegan. you don't get to be champ just eating broccoli and fake butter.

Muhammad Ali, Joe Louis, Rocky Marciano, Sugar Ray Robinson, Bart Starr, Jim Brown, Michael Jordan, Dr J, Pele, Mark Spitz, Michael Phelps,Carl Lewis, Jesse Owens, Nadia Comaniche, Dorothy Hamil; meat eaters and not a steroid in sight. You can reach physical superiority and performance greatness not using steroids but never as a vegan. Name 5 top physical greats that are vegan (the debate team doesn't count as a physical perfomance).

Actually, a healthy diet will include soy protein as well as animal protein. Tofu is soy.
02:08 PM on 04/12/2011
Found out the hard way that my body doesn't like soy. Not everyone can tolerate soy.

Most meat eaters are too cowardly to actually kill and gut a chicken, cow, pig, or what have you, themselves. Heck--most of them couldn't even handle cleaning a fish. It's laughable when they mention humans being omnivorous--it's so natural being an omnivore so long as someone else has to do the dirty work.

No. Most meat eaters live where there are little things called grocery stores so we don't HAVE to do any of that. I was in a U.S. Special Operations Group for Granada, Panama, and the first Iraq conflict; a chicken does not scare me in the least. It's so natural for you to exercise your freedom of speach and call people names if they don't believe what you believe when someone else has to do the dirty work and fight for those freedoms.

LIfe expectancy in India where 40% of the people are vegetarian - 63.8 years. Life expectancy in Greece where virtually nobody's a vegetarian - 80 years.

Natalie, I am still willing to marry you, despite your faults.

Not really a conclusive argument since there are probably lots of other factors to consider besides diet.

Yep, The fact that many parts of India lack clean water is one.

No. The life expectancy in India being lower has more to do with the fact that many people still live in third world conditions and lack clean water, not with them not eating meat.
