In America you can buy justice if you've got the money,...and if you have lots of money, you can even write the laws to suit you

GE may have that many employees but what about the partly or wholly-owned subsidiaries that are in china?

That's a truly outstanding, and purposely misleading analysis.

What you forgot to include:
How many jobs did GE ship overseas in the last ten years?
How much state and local government support did GE get in the last ten years?
How much federal government business did GE do in the last ten years - paid for by taxpayers?
How much funding did GE get with with the banking support and TARP - during the last ten years?
What kind of near-free money did GE get in the last ten years?
Other federal, state and local tax givebacks in the last ten years?

Say again how many jobs GE shipped overseas in the last ten years?

F&F...they were one of the recipients of the over $9 trillion given in zero interest loans via the FED...have been told they are one of the major shareholders of the for profit, privately owned FED...the biggest entitlement program in the world...

K.P.M.G. is GE's auditing/acctg firm...what role have they played in setting up the loopholes that allow all the tax advantages. The big4 acctg firms have pretty much been ignored while the co's they represent are making record profits and "legally" paying low taxes in many cases. Time for someone in the media to start looking at these relationships and the roles of the "professional" accounting firms.

Something something socialism

Also...what is GE's role in the FED? Is it one of the large shareholders of the for profit FED?
05:56 PM on 04/11/2011
Also...don't forget GE was one the corps that received part of the $9 trillion in 0% interest loans given to many of the big corps that were in bad positions financially and they were one of the "chosen" for these loans...who decides what companies are winners and which are losers?

Great article describing how the companies that can afford spending large $'s on their lobbyists are in total charge. Someone needs to focus on the role of the big 4 accounting firms and their role in setting up the tax code that favor the mega corps...

First, it sounds like the NYT needs to hire some new accountants.

The tax code needs to be redone. Americans spend an estimated 6 billion hours complying with the 16,000 pages of tax law. High rates with thousands of special provisions, credits, and deductions result in companies with large accounting staffs legally paying at a lower effective rate than smaller companies without the tax resources. High rates make it more effective to hire tax help than engineers. Lower rates with fewer special deals would raise just as much money and make the country far more productive.

Repubs, if taxes are so burdensome, why is it that they are enjoying huge profits while American workers suffer? If they are so over-taxed, why are they showing these record profits????
