Ron Paul Bashes Paul Ryan's Budget, Calls Big Government 'King'

Ron Paul

First Posted: 04/11/11 09:09 PM ET Updated: 06/11/11 06:12 AM ET

WASHINGTON -- Potential 2012 GOP presidential candidate Ron Paul (Texas) on Monday panned Rep. Paul Ryan’s (R-Wis.) budget proposal, telling a crowd in Iowa that the Ryan plan will not end big government, which he said is becoming like a monarchy.

Speaking at a forum organized by the Family Leader, a local Christian and socially conservative group, the Texas congressman referred to a passage in the Old Testament where the Israelite people asked the prophet Samuel for a king to rule over them. He used the story a parable to illustrate where he believes the once self-reliant American culture is headed.

“We don’t have a king today but unfortunately I think we’re drifting to a point that our big government is king, and the government tells us what we can do and be responsible for us,” Paul said. “And if we don’t have a house, they’ll give us a house. If we don’t have education, they’ll give us free education. If we’re hungry, we get food stamps. And deficits don’t matter. And if you need money, you print the money. And we have this moral obligation to police the world."

"It goes on and on," the congressman said. "The king will take care of us.”

Paul, who had a surprisingly strong showing in the 2008 Republican presidential primary but has not yet declared his intentions for the 2012 race, also talked about Ryan's budget and the Federal Reserve with an audience of roughly 150 people in Sioux Center, in the state’s northwest corner.

He said the budgets proposed by Rep. Ryan and President Obama wouldn't put Washington on a path to limited government.

“Neither of those budgets will solve our problems, or even come close," Paul said.

Released last week, the Ryan budget has been praised by centrists and conservatives, but criticized by liberals. Many on the left have said Ryan’s plan is unfair to the elderly and the poor -– who would also be affected by Ryan’s approach to Medicare and Medicaid, respectively. If medical prices continue to rise on their current trajectory, the Congressional Budget Office projected that Ryan’s plan would increase health care costs for seniors and limit the growth of government medical services for the neediest Americans.

But the libertarian firebrand Paul, who will turn 76 this summer, said Ryan's plan doesn’t go nearly far enough toward dismantling the welfare state. Ryan's budget is set to pass the GOP-controlled House this week.

“We are dealing with a problem in Washington as a budgetary accounting problem and that’s not it. It’s a philosophy problem." Paul said. "What is the philosophy of government? What should the role of government be?"

The congressman went on to question the role of government in the economy and welfare system. "Ryan," he said, "doesn’t reject that notion. I do.”

Paul also took some swipes at one of his favorite targets, the Federal Reserve, blasting it for its role in issuing currency. He criticized the U.S. government for not allowing private citizens to use whatever currency they want.

“We have a government that is so out of control that, I don’t know, we should call them liars. Others would. But they’re always telling you," Paul said, "what they’re going to do for you."

“Well how are they going to do it? What do they have?" he asked. "They produce nothing. They have to steal it from somebody and give it to somebody else.”

“If you don’t have enough taxes to pay the bills, you create this counterfeit machine called the Federal Reserve." Paul said. "We spent $50 billion last year we didn’t have. ‘Oh print the money. That’s painless. You don’t have to borrow money.’ But the whole thing is, it’s still theft. It’s counterfeit. It’s illegal.”

Ron Paul is the only presidential candidate who would cut enough spending to avert a debt crisis. Only he will restore constitutionally sound money. And, only he will strengthen our national defense by bringing our troops home and putting an end to the nation-building that is draining our country.
Watch Dr Paul question Ben Bernanke if you doubt Paul understands even subtle aspects of the economy. Imagine Palin or Romney doing that?
Other candidates speak flowery words and tell nothing of how anything will get done. Mr. Paul is very different.
Constitutionally, legislatively, and morally, Ron Paul has no equal. His 22 year voting record speaks for itself.
Please help give America back Her Constitution.
Ron Paul for President in 2012.
Thank You

PLEASE READ PART 1 FIRST
(Part 3) I hate to say I Would take Obamacare over your death sentence of young girls and rape victims, at least Obamacare applies to every one. You or your son should never be President.

Note that’s not in email.
How can he be a constitutionalist if he will take the constitutional rights away from women? Abortion was made legal because of so many women dyeing from butcher abortions from young girls and rape victims killing themselves because being raped was bad enough but having to relive that rape every day for nine months was cruel so the female and the baby died. That is why abortion was made legal. He wants abortion abolished completely, Make provisions for victim and for life threatening pregnancies but not what he wants. We need someone in office that will think of all the people not just the ones they choose

Please Karen;

Mr. Paul simply wants those decisions to be State Regulated as the Federal Government has no authority, and no money, to do those things.

Karen how do You think Mr. Ron Paul kept his job as a Congressman, while retaining all of his moral and ethical standards as a Christian?

Mr. Ron Paul is personally is prolife.
Mr. Ron Paul is personally anti drug.

However, when he took his oath to office to support the Constitution. BY LAW he is to only apply this professional dealings via the Constitution. So the Federal Government loses it authority to even decide these things and it becomes a State matter.

Please, I beg of You, as one American to another, do some research on the subjects. Listen to Mr. Paul talk. Constitutionally, legislatively, and morally, Ron Paul has no equal. His 22 year voting record speaks for itself.
Please help give America back Her Constitution.
Ron Paul for President in 2012.
Thank You

I'm so very sorry you had to go through that. Sometimes pro-life advocates are so gung ho about saving children that they don't think about these awful scenarios.

(Part 2) Raped by My step father from the age of 9 until 16. When I was 15 I got pregnant I tried thinking of ways to kill myself because I was not going to have that monsters baby in me. I was lucky a friend helped me pay for an abortion.
I'm 47 years old now and have no regrets at all. I know what happened to me to this day still happens through out the world to young girls, probably every day and I will not promote you or your son for Presidency any longer, I don’t believe a baby should be aborted after 3 or 4 months along, but any one that will not protect a minor or a rape victim before 3 or 4 months A female that is walking and breathing and talking should not be President. I'm sorry as much as I hate to say I

There are 3 parts please read all before judging.
(Part 1) I no longer will vote for Ron Paul or Rand Paul if one of them run for president this is an email i set to Ron Paul explaining why.....
Up until today I was really hoping you would run for 1012 President, I even voted for you until you dropped out last time this year I post all over stating that I was for you to be President 2012. I always liked the fact that you never changed your views; I liked the way you stick up for the constitution. But I guess I should have checked you out better. I have read your voting stats and I did not know until now how much you are against abortions at any cost.
Here is a short story I’m not adding all the horrific Details, just a short version. When I was young I was raped by

I absolutely love the well informed Ron Paul supporters comments posted under this article. The Ron Paul army truly does still exist and it gives me hope for the future of our once great nation. Guys, lets hope he runs and whether he wins or not (obviously wont because of ignorance and mass media propaganda) but he sure will lite up the debates again :)

"If we don’t have education, they’ll give us free education."

THIS is a problem? Right now, in America, where education is imperative to the operation of democracy? Giving people an education is bad? What is wrong with you, Rep Paul? Education should be some kind of prize for society's elites? Is that somehow better than free education for all, so that people might learn how to use the franchise that is granted them by the Constitution? Nah, we'd rather have and EVEN stupider electorate voting in the future.

Ron Paul is the only candidate that actually has knowledge of economics, the US economy and foreign policy. If you do nothing else before the election PLEASE conduct some research on Dr. Paul. I am confident that you will see that his factual message is not the result of recent trends but one that is the result of a consistent message over thirty years old.
RON PAUL 2012!

Where do you expect to get free education? Even if the government pays for it, its not free. You pay taxes dont you? Or are you somebody who doesnt pay taxes but expects the benifits of everything. "Free education" actually costs more than regular education. When government pays for it, that means you payed for it through a tax then you also paid a little bit more to finace the middleman (government) whos giving you "free education". Your better off getting rid of the tax and cutting the middle man out and paying for it yourself.

Jesus is a Communist Part3 of 3

10Then fell she down straightway at his feet, and yielded up the ghost: and the young men came in, and found her dead, and, carrying her forth, buried her by her husband.

11And great fear came upon all the church, and upon as many as heard these things.

Jesus is a Communist part2

Acts 5: v1-11
1But a certain man named Ananias, with Sapphira his wife, sold a possession,

2And kept back part of the price, his wife also being privy to it, and brought a certain part, and laid it at the apostles' feet.

3But Peter said, Ananias, why hath Satan filled thine heart to lie to the Holy Ghost, and to keep back part of the price of the land?

4Whiles it remained, was it not thine own? and after it was sold, was it not in thine own power? why hast thou conceived this thing in thine heart? thou hast not lied unto men, but unto God.

5And Ananias hearing these words fell down, and gave up the ghost: and great fear came on all them that heard these things.

6And the young men arose, wound him up, and carried him out, and buried him.

7And it was about the space of three hours after, when his wife, not knowing what was done, came in.

8And Peter answered unto her, Tell me whether ye sold the land for so much? And she said, Yea, for so much.

9Then Peter said unto her, How is it that ye have agreed together to tempt the Spirit of the Lord? behold, the feet of them which have buried thy husband are at the door, and shall carry thee out.

Jesus is a Communist part1
Acts 4: v 33-37

33And with great power gave the apostles witness of the resurrection of the Lord Jesus: and great grace was upon them all.

34Neither was there any among them that lacked: for as many as were possessors of lands or houses sold them, and brought the prices of the things that were sold,

35And laid them down at the apostles' feet: and distribution was made unto every man according as he had need.

36And Joses, who by the apostles was surnamed Barnabas, (which is, being interpreted, The son of consolation,) a Levite, and of the country of Cyprus,

37Having land, sold it, and brought the money, and laid it at the apostles' feet.

I see nothing in these scriptures about government coercion. If a person voluntarily contributes to a cause that does not make him a communist. After all, he decided what to do with his own money -- not the government.

There' was nothing voluntary in the Apostle's redistribution of wealth. The alternative was instant death!
Please read on…Acts 5 1-6

The Federal Reserve bank is a private institutation that was shamefully signed by Woodrow Wilson during the Congress recess in 1913. It is not a governmental agency. It makes its money by printing money and "lending" it to the U.S. Government with an interest on the note to be paid back to the bank. Only the Congress has the constitutional right to coin and regulate money. Woodrow Wilson betrayed the American taxpayer by his signing. Now, the problem is magnified since the amount of interest alone to the bank is over $400 billion a year and this is not speaking of the $14 trillion debt balance to the bank. Anybody with common sense can see that the nation has a systemic problem. And the problem will not be fixed by cutting Medicare, discretionary spending, and defense.

Yes, it blows me away how so many American are actually frightened by the prospect of having freedom and liberty.
03:36 PM on 04/14/2011
Right. Like, the freedom and liberty to die on the street as an elderly person, rather than having Social Security and Medicare, both of which Republicans like Ryan opposed and are now keen to dismantle into privatization (I mean, we had a private system before them, didn't we?).

It's not that cut and dry, but pretty easy to think of it in those terms. Then you don't really have to solve problems. It's called utopianism, and it doesn't work.
