Eleven writers and comedians took the stage at last Tuesday evening's 'Moment I Knew' Meetup in Los Angeles to share accounts of their "aha" moments that were equal parts poignant and humorous.
"I knew we were done that first night after we made love. She reached for a Zelda Fitzgerald biography and read me the part where Zelda burns to death in a mental institution. She looked at me and said, 'Zelda Fitzgerald is my idol,'" recounted Dennis Danziger, one of the performers and author of A Short History of a Tall Jew
"I went to a jewelry store without him and bought my own engagement ring," said Sascha Rothchild, author of How To Get Divorced By 30 and another performer. "I had the distinct notion I should get something nontraditional so I could wear it on my right hand if we ever did get divorced."
The event--which was hosted by Huffington Post Divorce in partnership with Meetup.com--was a smash hit, as nearly 80 attendees--divorcees, singles, and couples alike--nibbled on appetizers and wine while taking in the performances.
