World's Largest Lego Tower Erected In Brazil (PHOTOS)

First Posted: 04/11/11 04:06 PM ET   Updated: 06/11/11 06:12 AM ET

Brazil has smashed Chile's record by completing the world's largest Lego tower.

CNN is reporting that the tower -- erected at a Sao Paulo shopping center -- reaches a height of 102 feet and 3 inches, breaks the previous record set in Santiago by 25 centimeters (9.84 inches).

As the Telegraph reports, the tower is composed of 500,000 individual pieces -- the last of which Brazilian soccer great Cafu snapped into place Saturday.

Quite an accomplishment, but I hope when they're done with it and take it apart all those legos can go to underprivileged kids who need some toys.

I'd be happier if the head said "tallest" instead of "largest."

I won't count it unless it's free-standing. Support wires galore in every direction don't impress me.

I bought that same Lego set online last year. Mine only had 499,999 pieces. Am I missing one piece, and what color is it?

As a kid my little brother insisted I remove all the brown lego pieces from the toybox before we started playing. (grin)

It's a shame you won't be able to walk over that parking lot at night without ruining your feet now.

interesting....Legos are more than a toy
they are also a teaching tool
Schools have FIRST Lego Leagues ..an afterschool club..which combines Legos projects and computer programs..pre-engineering skills
this leads to FIRST Robotics teams in HS...which is mechanical engineering

I got my own kids motorized Lego kits when they were young...

my daughter is now teaching Principles of engineering to HS kids, and runs a Lego league in the districts elementary school

who knew there was so much potential in that little plastic block?
