Jimmer Fredette Too Famous For Class

BYU Star Athlete Too Famous For Class

Jimmer Fredette is certainly not the first student to cut class, but he may be the first to do so to honor his college's wishes, reports USA Today.

The Brigham Young University senior and NBA hopeful has become so big in the past few months that school officials have asked him to stop attending classes as his presence has become too disruptive.

In a letter to the Brigham Young Universe, one student compared the buzz around Fredette to idol worship. "I can't walk across campus without hearing Jimmer Fredette's name a dozen times," the student wrote. "His name comes up everywhere: in class, at work, during lunch ... really, people? Cut it out with the Jimmer worship. Last time I checked, idol worship was very much frowned upon in the scriptures."

Fredette's father told the Post-Star in February that Jimmer has a hard time traversing campus unnoticed. "I asked him what he does on campus when he goes out," the elder Fredette said."He said he wears a hoodie and tries not to make eye contact."

Fredette will complete his remaining coursework online.
