At a press conference on Tuesday, recently re-appointed Egyptian antiquities minister Zahi Hawass showed looted artifacts which had been recovered. The objects were among those stolen from the Egyptian Museum in Cairo during the protests in Tahrir Square on January 28. Many of the several dozen objects which were taken have since been recovered, but 33 remain missing from the museum.

The Telegraph quoted Zahi Hawass as stating,

We brought back four pieces first, then 12 pieces after that and five pieces after that and four now. What we are missing now are only 33 objects, are mainly from the late period and I'm very happy to announce that this came to us this morning are very beautiful artefacts from the collection of Tutankhamen.

The recovered artifacts, reportedly found in an underground metro station, include a gold statue of King Tutankhamen. The object, which was broken off of a larger statue, is slightly damaged with small pieces of the crown and legs missing from the figure, which will be reunited and restored.

The other objects include Tutankamen’s fan, part of which was broken; a gilded bronze and wooden trumpet belonging to the boy king; and a shabti figure of Tutankhamen's great-grandparents Yuya and Tjuya. Both the trumpet and the shabti were returned in good condition and will be returned to display immediately.

Although the Egyptian Museum has recovered many of the dozens of objects stolen from them in January, Hawass told El Mundo that around 1,000 artifacts looted from around the country remain missing.

So Herodotus and Pythagoras ask where are the Kemites because these Egyptians weren't here when we last visited.

If there is a hell this dogs and the people who visit that place to partake in the desecration of those ancestors grave are going first class.

These Asian were know for selling grind up mummies to Europeans aristocrats back in the day. Not one culture on planet earth would ever think of displaying their own ancestors to strangers, that shows that these beast have no connection to that place and the graves they are robbing.

Zahi Hawass, in my opinion, is not a trustworthy man. His issues are politics, and race.

Priceless art from a long ago era gets stolen and then recovered and the Trolls have to weigh in on Hawass, Egypt, etc. Can't we just be glad that this art is back?

Rude of me to point out but it looks like Hawass could use some new dentures...

Yes- It is rude and completely uncalled for.

Hawass is the same guy who has been campaigning hard for European countries that took artifacts out of Egypt in earlier centuries to return them, with success in many instances. He might have made a better case for that by guarding the artifacts he already has a little better. As is, he now looks foolish.

right. an entire nation in revolutionary turmoil- A govenrment on the ropes- and you expect an underfunded and understaffed museum director to "guard" thousands of artifacts. Go into ANY museum in the world- the artwork is displayed largely on the honor system. Five armed bandits could loot virtually any museum in the world. The Pieta in Rome is now behind glass because of a vandal's attack thirty years ago. It stood in perfect condition, unmolested and unguarded, for 400 years.

Hawass had a great show on the Science Channel before he was first forced to retired as the Egyptian antiquities minister called Chasing Mummies. I hope they bring that show back.

I loved that show. Unfortunately as an Egyptian gov't employee, he had to retire by a certain age. In the show I believe the producer/directer had mentioned in a voice over that Hawass had gotten an extension on the mandatory retirement age. He is very passionate about his work. My wife's aunt was an archeologist with U of Pa and had a chance to work with him. She thought he was crazy in a good way.

I can't believe they re-appointed this tyrant of a pseudo-scientist, Hawass! Just Monday night my friends and I were celebrating his long-awaited departure and the freeing up of Egyptologists that his exit brought. Fudge!

Caption for the picture, "Did the bad man touch you over here?"

I'm sorry, but I couldn't resist, the picture is just asking for it.

You don't have to be sorry. He looks very happy to find his lost baby. I am very happy, too.

Thank goodness they were found.I still can't believe I left Egypt less than 24 hours before the protesting began.I wish there was a way to contact my tour guide to thank him for not allowing us to lollygag around(like we normally do)and hurry us back to our ship.I believe he knew of the upcoming events and wanted to insure our safety
