Publisher Yanks Book Implying Vatican OKs Condoms

VATICAN CITY -- An Italian publisher has yanked copies of a book on Catholic Church teaching after a translation error implied the Vatican approved of contraception.

The book "YouCat," a Catholic catechism book for young people, is to be presented officially at a Vatican press conference Wednesday.

The Rev. Joseph Fessio, the book's English-language publisher, said Tuesday that YouCat's Italian publisher Nuova Citta had pulled the Italian copies to fix the error.

It's the second time in a year that translation problems have muddied church teaching on contraception. In November, the Vatican's own publishing house mistranslated the pope's comments about condoms and AIDS as implying that condom use for prostitutes was justified in some cases.

It is all a big misunderstanding. Priests were advised to avoid getting any altar boys pregnant and some priests thought that was a call for condom use.

Translation error?!!!!!!! By a religious organization that was the original translator of the scriptures and HAS BEEN the primary translator thru the early centuries that are the foundation of all Christianity.

No, people will have sex. And with 50% of marriages ending in divorce, is that really favorable?

How can you cite "reality" as your basis while assuming people will wait to have sex. It's not about wishful thinking, its about reality. The reality is that people have sex outside of wedlock and aren't any worse for the wear. But teaching uneducated sub-saharan populations that Condoms and sin are worse than HIV/AIDS is a crime against humanity. I'm sure you tithe like a good little catholic, so pat yourself on the back for defending pedophiles AND ensuring the deaths of thousands in Africa.

I don't pat myself on the back, but I do support all the charitable works the Church does. The Missionaries of Charity are a great example. Thank God the Church has many members assisting the poor around the world. Abstinence will not prevent the continuity of our species if it is practiced outside of marriage. People have sex outside of marriage so often today because they lack the self discipline and well formed conscience to resist that temptation. I have faith that with the correct education and emphasis on a good, loving marriage, sex outside of marriage will be an exception. Rampant sex outside of marriage is ripping apart people's souls, it is self serving and debasing. We were made to be couples, man and woman, this is difficult because of our sinful natures, but rewarding and achievable with God's grace. Hope this helps you understand better. God Bless, Veritas.
