These Kansas abortion laws likely won't survive legal challenges. I've posted about it on my blog if you're interested. http://waronignorance.net/05_19_abortion.html

All this bill does is add regulation to an unregulated industry. All industry, all activities between people need some government regulations. No medical treatment should be unregulated by government. People just need to accept that we need government regulations in our lives.

Under Kansas law, a child who BEARS a child becomes an emancipated minor upon that birth and responsible for all decisions, although many 14 and 15 year olds must cause their new baby to become a ward of the state through AFDC, because the young teen cannot provide housing and food for the infant in any other way . . . but she is no longer a minor herself!!  Difficult to understand how a few seconds can cause a difference in the decision making capability of these kids??

Teen pregancy rates: 2000::by leading states from : http://womensissues.about.com/od/datingandsex/a/TeenPregStates.htm

States ranked by rates of pregnancy among women age 15-19 (pregnancies per thousand):

1. Nevada (113)
2. Arizona (104)
3. Mississippi (103)
4. New Mexico (103)
5. Texas (101)
6. Florida (97)
7. California (96)
8. Georgia (95)
9. North Carolina (95)
10. Arkansas (93)

States ranked by rates of live births among women age 15-19 (births per thousand):

1. Mississippi (71)
2. Texas (69)
3. Arizona (67)
4. Arkansas (66)
5. New Mexico (66)
6. Georgia (63)
7. Louisiana (62)
8. Nevada (61)
9. Alabama (61)
10. Oklahoma (60)

States ranked by rates of abortion among women age 15-19 (pregnancies per thousand): From http://womensissues.about.com/od/datingandsex/a/TeenAbortRates.htm

1. New Jersey (47)
2. New York (46)
3. Maryland (38)
4. Nevada (36)
5. California (36)
6. Hawaii (34)
7. Florida (33)
8. Delaware (31)
9. Connecticut (30)
10. Illinois (27)

All of the above statistics appear to come from the study: "U.S. Teenage Pregnancy Statistics National and State Trends and Trends by Race and Ethnicity", Guttmacher Institute September 2006.

It is somehwat evident that there is some migration of teens from high pregnancy states to high abortion states to obtain abortions.

What are we going to feed this babies with? How are we going to cloth them? Where are they suppose to work when they grow up since there is not enough jobs for the current population? Lets solute people brave enough to know when to not have a child. Instead of people like you who would have as many as possible.

Every time I look at Brownbeck, I see a cobra. Even when he is smiling and trying to be friendly, I see the malevolance oozing from him. I think he would walk over his mother while being so pious. He says live is so important but wants to kill every program that makes life possible. Slash education, close institutions for the severely disabled, give tax relief to the Koch's. What a vicious, vile man who is owned by the Koch's, the family and opus dei.He won because of stupid people who just saw the r by his name and don't think about what he really stands for. Unfortunately, I have to live with the consequences.

While I am very upset that the governor of my native state has taken this action, let alone got voted into office in the first place, one doesn't need to denigrate an entire state because of some imbalanced politician, especially if one hasn't or "won't step foot in it." Kansas itself is full of beauty and kind folk, and has in its time had very strong democratic leadership; Governor Sebilius's departure for an Obama cabinet position left a void that the Republicans quickly swooped in to fill. I haven't lived in Kansas for over 20 years, and as a card-carrying pro-choice supporter, it pains me to see these measures taken, but let's be adult about our criticisms. Brownback is by no means alone in this movement; there are Republican governors across the country ramming their social conservative agendas down their statemen's throats.

This law means that if a girl is being raped repeatedly by her father and becomes pregnant, he can force her to have the child.

Abortion clinics should be visited by the kansas dept. of health and ed. just like the hospitals. The parents have a rite to know for minors. Every ocupation is audited by some dept. even manure trucks. why should a abortion clinic be any different.

Its the girls body and she is ultimately responsible for raising the child. It should be her decision to make not be forced on her by her parents who may not agree with her views. This law is a perversion.

I just hope Kansas has millions and millions of dollars saved up to spend defending these bills, one of which is obviously unconstitutional.
