Texas Republicans Stall On Repealing Anti-Sodomy Statute

Antigay Law

Mother Jones:

Eight years after the Supreme Court deemed Texas' anti-sodomy statute unconstitutional, the state's penal code still lists "homosexual conduct" as a criminal offense--and Republican lawmakers are fighting to keep it that way.

A pair of identical bills that have been introduced in the Texas House would delete language from the state penal code making "deviate sexual intercourse with another individual of the same sex" a misdemeanor offense. Under the proposals, a clause in the state's health and safety code that cites the criminal statute and states that homosexuality is "not an acceptable lifestyle" would also be repealed.

That is, if the legislature's Republican supermajority ever lets the bills come to a vote.

They do know sodomy includes BJ's right? Then cameras should be built in every mans bedroom and if wifey's mouth goes even near the "dirty area" or vise versa an alarm should sound in the nearby police station and both aught to be arrested on the spot. Same goes for straight couples who like backdoor action. And every porn star aught to be shot.

So Kobe is fined for making a comment that really had nothing to do with gays and these a-hats can do this? The homosexuals of texas should arm themselves and give these kooks a lesson in the second amendment.

if you could survive the first 48 hours in custody there, a person or persons could sue the state of texas for a lot of money, i'm guessing, for violating civil rights. given it's a federal offense, the jury could be in austin, say, as tom delay says they are uber liberal there. just saying.... seems like a strange way to make money, but republics only care about stuff that costs them cash. make it expensive and they will change their mind. and cover their proverbial... a-s-s.

Texas is billions in debt... Broke... Begging for federal cash... And this is how they spend legislative resources....

Wish the "conservatives" were really concerned with conserving.....whatever happened to keeping government out of "our lives"?????

So what if Texas doesn't repeal its antiquated, bigoted sodomy laws. Since the Supreme Court ruling, the laws are unenforceable and any attempt to enforce them will land the law enforcement department of that jurisdiction in a whole pile of legal trouble.

have to sue them, which might be a good idea. if it costs them lots of money, maybe they would pull their head out of their...

on the other hand, one would have to survive the period of custody down there... .wonder why those texas law makers think about men having sx so much?

Who in the heck could be against Sodomy? Aside from the unwilling victims in prison, I think everybody is having a fine time with it... I am however against public sodomy! Even if used for public humiliation as in a form of punishment. I think that's just wrong and shouldn't happen!

Government does not belong in any consenting adult's bedroom. Your bedroom conduct and my bedroom conduct is absolutely none of anybody else's business. If you're a true conservative, then act like one. Conduct yourself how you see fit and keep big brother where he belongs.
