Christopher Hitchens

Telegraph:

"[Mother Teresa] was not a friend of the poor. She was a friend of poverty. She said that suffering was a gift from God. She spent her life opposing the only known cure for poverty, which is the empowerment of women and the emancipation of them from a livestock version of compulsory reproduction."

Mother Theresa is a saint. She spent her entire life doing good, and being good. She helped the poorest of the poor, she lived as they did, and never took anything for herself. This oaf insults one who is so far above him with his politically correct views about women he should be ignored. Only here on atheist central would anyone deem his steaming pile worthy of print. It belongs where a 1.6 gallon flush will rid us of it, and him.

He was clearly mistaken about parts of his last quote.

I think this is an attempt to discredit the man as he continues in his well-publicized illness - as if to say, he's losing it. Mr. Hitchens was quite provocative without cancer - nothing new to see here.

What Hitch lacks in moral clarity when in comes to American Imperialism he nearly makes up for with his writings on religious zealotry. Nearly.

uhh...how are these outbursts again?

Dear Huff Post editors,
It's quite inaccurate, and perhaps even a little disingenuous, to refer to these quotes as "Outbursts," which falsely implies that he said these things while yelling in anger.

Why can't you title this "Christopher Hitchens: Most Provocative Quotes" or "Sayings?"

I wish I could separate the brilliance of his writings on religion from his absolutely shameful stance on U.S. Imperialism, but alas I cannot.

I choose to agree to disagree with him. I still respect that he has his opinion for a reason, and you can bet it's a very well thought out, thoroughly researched opinion. He causes me to constantly question my position on the middle east, and there are very few who bring me to a pause very often.
