Jennifer Lopez Paints Her Son Max's Toenails Blue

J Lo Son

While Fox News is on the subject of boy toenail painting and how it relates to gender identity and, in fact, the celebration of transgendered children, The Cut points out that J.Crew's Jenna Lyons isn't the only one who likes to give her son a pedicure.

From People magazine's recent profile on Jennifer Lopez, the Most Beautiful Woman In The World Ever (TM):

Lopez, 41, also has learned valuable beauty tips over the years, and says daughter Emme is starting to prove she's her mother's child. "She is very girly-girl, just like me since I was very little. She loves for me to paint her nails," Lopez says. "She lays out her clothes on the floor like I do with my stylist and she's like, 'This matches very good!' "

And what about son Max? "He wants to paint his nails too. Because for him, it's just paint. He's like, 'I want the blue!'" Lopez says, laughing. "Then Marc is like, 'Why are Max's nails painted?!' But he won't sit still so it's only like two nails."

Silly, Max! It's not just paint -- it's the unraveling of modern day society (remixed with the sounds of Fox News reporters' tongues wagging in the wind).

So, uhhm, do you paint your male spawn's toenails? Tell us all about it in the comments.

My husband gets a pedicure and has rocked black finger polish a time or two. I dare anyone to tell him it makes him gay.

Seriously? My boys painted their toenails and even wore my lipstick 20-odd years ago. This is nothing new, folks. Trying to tie it into gender identity is just another way of creating drama where none exists.
10:33 PM on 05/02/2011
And so what if putting on nail polish makes a boy gay? Why does it matter? What if being gay IS a choice, so what? True freedom is allowing people choose, not having to prove it's genetic or conform to some measure or degree. I'm gay and don't feel I chose it but why does it matter? There is no measure of how gay, straight, masculine or feminine anyone should be, so why should it matter that two men have to prove to be born gay. So why should we so afraid is a boywith pink toenails will turn out gay? If we truly believe gay people are 100% human and 100% deserving of rights or respects, we shouldn't care whether a person is gay or not, no more than someone's eyes are blue or brown. It just is...and so what? Isn't that what true human rights are all about?

Who cares, he is a kid. Let him be a kid, for god's sake!

I personally find it disturbing that the right wingers would tie a young child's behavior to sexuality or gender identity.

If the kid wants his toenails painted, then I don't see what the problem is.

My boy is 2 and not only loves to get his nails painted, but has been known to run around in dresses (gasp)! That's what happens when you're the youngest of 3 kids, and your older siblings are all girls. The only thing damaging about this is the fact that we're collecting plenty of blackmail photos for when he grows up!

He is still as masculine as you would expect; he loves dirt, loves to jump from high places, and loves to tear things up. He looks like a cave man with a dress and painted nails running around. But still, even if he was feminine, he is what he is and I love him no matter what. That's unconditional love, and intelligence enough to know I have no say in what his preferences are when he's older.

I'm reminded of the question "when did you decide you were straight?" What? You didn't? You were born that way? huh....that's because it's not a choice you make!!! Painting your son's toe nails or putting a little bit of make-up on his face, the fact that he loves pink and tinkerbell, like my son, will not 'turn him gay'. He also loves pirates and spiderman. 'Let's get the bad guys, mommy," he says to me. I have two sons (4 months and 3 1/2 yrs) and I am excited to see their minds work and grow openly!!!

the kid is really adorable and ms lopez looks great, of course, but i do feel a little like some of these celebrity kids look very over-styled and like miniature adults. kids are cuter when they're just kids.

that's really judgmental ... don't you think? "The unraveling of modern day society... wow. Let's just say, a society so obsessed with our looks, body image

I think that was written in jest, the sarcasm gets lost in print form sometimes. Happens to me constantly.

I did not recognize her. She has always been gorgeous, but she looks completely different. Her attitude about painting her son's toenails is a healthy one, in my opinion.

Much ado about nonsense! I think all the pseudo-shrinks should simply back off - would they feel better if a toddler boy got a tattoo instead?? Isn't that more "manly"???

Or has a gun rack on the back of his big wheel and lots of open containers (empty juice boxes) on the floor. PERFECT!

This is not a big deal, he sees his sister, most importantly his TWIN getting it done, so he wants it also. Apparently he gets bored after a few minutes and moves on to something else. That's what little kids do. My son used to watch me putting on makeup and ask me to put some on him, so I'd swipe his cheeks with a little blush, he's laugh and run off. He's 24 now and I haven''t seen him wear make up yet.......
