Ed Schultz And Michael Steele Have Shouting Match On Bill Maher (VIDEO)

First Posted: 04/16/11 04:17 PM ET Updated: 06/16/11 06:12 AM ET

Ed Schultz and former RNC chair Michael Steele got into a series of shouting matches on Friday's "Real Time With Bill Maher."

The two fought heatedly over the proposed Republican budget, but the biggest clash probably came as Steele and Schultz discussed President Obama and Medicare.

When Bill Maher brought up Sen. Jon Kyl's infamous comment about Planned Parenthood, Steele said that the lie was part of a pattern of "hyperbolic statements on both sides." A little later on, he said that Americans didn't "expect" such statements, "whether it's from Jon Kyl or President Obama."

Schultz, voice booming, angrily cut in. "Don't put President Obama in the same comment with that statement!" he shouted. "Come on...President Obama has never made a comment that compares to that garbage."

Steele then defended Rep. Paul Ryan, who wants to turn Medicare into a voucher system for seniors. He said that the plan could work, though he admitted, to much audience noise, that "we don't know yet" what would happen if people used up their $15,000 yearly voucher before the year was up. As Steele talked about the plan, Schultz cut in again.

"I've listened to you, now it's my turn," he said, adding that a voucher would "cheat people." Steele interrupted him, saying, "what proof do you have?" The conversation continued in this vein, with Steele eventually joking that he was going to have to "take [Schultz] out back."

I am a senior. I have Medicare part A. I cannot afford the $100 a month for Part B nor can I afford Part D. Luckily, the fact that I got Drafted and fought in another stupid American War in Vietnam I am eligible for health care from the VA which has its own problems. Nor can I afford the 20% copay on visits to a Dr, or for any surgery I might need. So I need a procedure that costs $100,000. and that isn't a  Read More...

So easy to Blame everybody but the guy that was President for 8 years, huh?
The guy who chose to go into a war against a country that never attacked the United States; Winked at the banks to siphon billions from potential homeowners,
& Ignored the memo warning of 9/11 because he was too busy chopping wood on his ranch.
You're living in LaLa Land.
See you in 2012.

So like when does Obama actually take charge or if he is re-elected can we just expect 4 years of blaming Bush? Hell, I wish Bush could have served 8 more years since he is still apparently in charge.

And speaking of wars against countries that never attacked us, Can you spell Libya?

And the memo warning of 9/11 went to Clinton but I guess Monica Lewinsky's A$$ must have covered it on his desk.

Your total lack of facts is astonishing.
And, the most maddening is that you never paid attention to anything to do with 9/11 or you wouldn't throw up this garbage.
9/11 Happened on Bush's Watch - period.
Condelessa Rice handed the memo to Bush at his ranch.
Now, go back to LaLa Land where you belong.
Bye.

I have to respect Mr Steele for coming on left leaning shows like Rachel Maddow, Ed Show and Real Time. He's not afraid of speaking his views(even if they are backwards) and mixing it up while on a Dems home court. I just got to respect that.

Why does Michael Steele always answer a question he cant answer with a statement like "The president didnt do that either" or "The Democrats didnt do this either". He sounds like a child that has been scolded by a parent for not eating their broccoli by saying their big brother didnt eat his broccoli either. Which makes it ok in the childs mind. Ed asked Steele why the Repubs havent created a jobs bill and Mr Steele answered by saying the President didnt create one either. And thats just one example of a few different times Mr Steele answered different questions that same way on The Ed Show and on Real Time..

If people think that was a hot situation, just wait for the hottest summer this country has seen in a hundred or so years, or maybe since the Civil War. The mainstream media refuses to cover the real news happening in many states, the ongoing protests and recall movements building momentum with each day. WI seems to be their "token" coverage, but that's just the tip of the ice berg. It's not about dem or repub, partisan or bipartisan anymore; the People don't care about which party, they care about people's lives. It's going to be incredible. The middle class has been pushed and pushed to the point that they are now having trouble feeding their families, and with that, their chronic apathy has come to an end. Did the "wanna be monarchy" really think the good, honest, rational, hard working and mild-mannered Americans of WI would just lay down and be rolled over? Did they think it was the "easiest" state to takeover and set a precedence? LOL, what a huge miscalculation. I'm loving that new glazed over, deer-caught-in-the-headlights stupor of Walker, and Paul Ryan has it now, too, after his town hall meeting revealed reality to him.

Thank you sc29403, for taking time to add objectivism into this thread. people are waking up in large numbers and that is exactly why the Establishment is kicking their globalist agenda into hyper mode.

I did get a change to watch the entire broadcast and while I am no fan of Michael Steele he did make several valid points that even Bill Maher had to agree with. The problem is he usually surrounds his points with such nonsense that it gets lost in all of the rhetoric. If Steele can simply say, for example, that Kly lied period point blank and left it at that instead of trying to somehow drag Obama into it and create a talking point then I would take him more seriously. But instead he repeats that same-ol same-ol until the lie becomes the truth
It's great to see someone on the left like Ed Schultz with the cojones to actually go toe to toe with someone on the right without caving in or being sym-pathetic. We need more people that can do this yet still remain factual. It was one of the best Real Time episodes I've seen in a while.

I would not want to be sitting between Ed and Michael.
Was that Amy Walters in the hot seat?

Michael spouting mumbo jumbo again and using voodoo tricks to justify the unjust
(let them die) repos.
Translation: "let's try to kill off the elderly".

Ed is always good at revealing the truth from the BS.
Now we know why Michael's eyes are brown.
Reduced to the clown in the room trying to justify the unjust.
In such a great country, do we HAVE to throw the elderly UNDER THE BUS?
Exception Country with abusive tendencies towards our elderly, sick, poor, disabled.
The repubs have created a horrifying future for our own.
Go ED!

I watched it Friday night and Steele (as usual) avoided questions. He changed the subject often and was non-comittal. He used a number of fallacious argument tactics and was quite lame.

Ed Schultz speaks for people like me who'd love to yell at some of these Republicans but can't. He cares. Someone has to.

How lame is this site that they can't get clearance and use real clips. I'm tired of this youtube link cr@p that then is taken off. Don't they do checks on these stories. How can you keep this up without the video. For a millionaire Ari@nna and/or whoever runs this site doesn't seem to care all that much on this front.

I watched that show Friday night, Steele parrotted the repud talking points without interjecting any of his own thoughts in to the conversation, he hasn't a clue about how it will work, just that someone told him it would. Schultz on the other hand called him out and put the truth on the table for all to see. I like Ed's gumption, he's not afraid to call a liar a liar. Steele and his cheerleading is laughable, he is the absolute wrong man to carry the repud flag.
